Orijen price increases?

    Orijen price increases?

Every time I buy a bag of Orijen it seems like it goes up by $3-5. Has anyone else noticed? It's up to $91 now. Some online stores have it at $107. Last time I bought it it was $88. When I first started buying it I think it was $70-75. Sad

I tried switching to a different brand, but Rupert just looooooves Orijen Regional Red. It's the only food he gets really excited to eat.

It's likely to get even more expensive. Orijen is currently undergoing a formula change (all formulas)-- adding more meat, removing potatoes to switch to a lower glycemic food (I believe they are replacing the potatoes with red lentils). Have you tried their sister food, Acana? Those formulas usually run about $10-$15 dollars less than the Orijen brand. I'm pretty sure they have a grain free beef/lamb formula.

Yikes Janice! I nearly bought some online and the fish was about the same price. I have not looked at my local store yet though. I have tried Acana and he did ok on it but not as well. I shudder to hear they are changing the formulas - its been the perfect food for allergy boy for tears now

Ohmigosh... I'd die. It's a good food, but wouldn't it be cheaper to home cook at that rate? We feed Native here (level 4 in winter and level 3 in summer)

We feed Ruby Orijen (Regional Red and the fish one).  It's very expensive, but we haven't noticed price increases as significant and frequent as what you've seen in your area, Janice.  That's crazy!

After a recent issue they had at their plant (a fire required oven replacement or something like that), possible inventory shortages caused many customers at the small shop where we buy our food to switch to another food (we bought several bags in advance and had no problems).  Because of these customers' changes, as well as the upcoming formula changes, the shop owner decided to stop carrying the Orijen line.  She encouraged us to switch to Fromm, like her other Orijen customers did.  She said it would be slightly cheaper than Orijen.

We hated the idea of switching Ruby's food since she thrives on Orijen (and devours it), yet we didn't want to take our business elsewhere because of our relationship with the shop and the owner.  She's making arrangements to get Orijen for us, but I'm sure that'll mean extra cost for us.  Home cooking would be cheaper, but we aren't likely to prioritize that kind of time or research.  So, we'll continue to pay a lot of $$$ for Ruby's sake for now.  Her food is of better quality and higher expense that what we feed ourselves!!  Tongue Tied

Wow that is really pricy! I don't see how they can stay in business with prices that high. I have to think they are hitting the point where their customers will weigh other options. I decided it was too expensive for me when it was in the $60 range. With 3 dogs there's just no way.

Maybe I'll try Acana. I'm not sure if my local store carries it. I'd rather buy from them, but most online places have free shipping. Hmmm. :/

I buy Acana and used to buy it from a local store, but found an online retailer that offers free shipping and it is cheaper than the store I was buying from. They even sent me a hand written thank you card for purchasing from them. Makes me feel like I'm helping a small company and I don't feel guilty.

The online stores usually have higher prices than my local store.  Maybe that's why they're able to offer free shipping.

Champion also has a frequent buyer program - 1 free bag for every 12 purchased (save the barcodes from bags).

Wonder if it's to make up for the repairs from the fire they had.  I don't think I could bring myself to pay that much.  :(

I ordered some Acana Ranchlands from chewy.com. The autoship is discounted (first order only I think) so it came to $62. The regular price is $73.

I had just found out about the frequent buyer program last time I bought some Orijen. I had been ordering it online but because of a online retailer mix up, I had to drive one hour to a pet food store that carried Orijen. They told me about the program and I was totally bummed about the few bags I had not saved the UPC from. :/

I'm glad you found a good alternative, Janice.  I hope Rupert likes it.  Keep us posted!

He definitely likes Acana and gets excited to be fed. He's looking good and eliminating normally. But I just realized that it might be cheaper to feed The Honest Kitchen. Anybody know how many cups are in a 28.6 lb bag? Confused

You can email Champion and they will let you know. That's what I did, but I deleted the email and I don't remember the amount.
