Raw meat

    Raw meat

when we acquired Thor I always fed him dry dog food since that was what he had had for the previous 8 years with his other owner. I started, very occasionally and when it was on offer at the supermarket, to introduce raw liver and kidney minced finely (mixed in with the dry food) and he loves it.  His first action is to lick all the raw meat from the dry food in his bowl and only going back to his regular food later.  Should I be cooking his meat beforehand or is it OK to give him the raw liver and kidney?  He doesn't get very much at a time.

    Raw is fine for dogs.

Welcome to the forum; Big Smile  It's fine to give your dog raw meat. I cook Jessie's meat but that's because she's immune-compromised (chronic pancreatitis). For a healthy dog, raw meat is fine.

There would be no problem in cooking Thor's meat for him - he would eat just about anything - but he does seem to like the raw meat particularly and jumps around like a pup when he smells it.

Although I say he would eat anything he will not touch treats offered to him by strangers.  As far as I know he wasn't taught to do this, but I'm very glad he does because you never know what he might be given.

Try just searing the outside of the meat to bring out the flavor. I had to do this with some types of meat for my JRT. She's on an all raw meat diet.
