Looking for a dog food to put weight on a Amstaff

My parents just adopted an Amstaff female who is about 1-2 years old and she is down on weight.  Any suggestions?

Has she seen a vet?  First thing would be to check in with a vet and see if there are any potential health concerns that are causing the weight loss or to be aware of when putting on weight.  The vet could also recommend some prescription diets that can help.  The vet may have some food stimulants that can help the dog want to eat more.  Is she thin because she was not being fed properly or is it that she is a picky eater? It's hard to say without seeing the dog.

For many dogs it is not about what they are being fed as much as how they are being fed to put on weight. Be careful, If you overfeed too quickly that can be just as dangerous and being too thin.  Start slowly, small amounts three or more times a day.  Too much at once can cause bad reactions for a skinny dog.

What do you mean by down on weight?  Something to consider, younger dogs often take some time to fill out. Amstaffs are normally thicker fuller bodied dogs so I could understand if she hasn't quite reached that body mass you see in adult dogs.  She may just be in her "teen" years right now and not yet reached her full maturity yet.  Around 1 to 3 years of age dog sometimes go through a stage where they are more slender and more active so they appear to be thiner then what is standard for the breed.  Maybe if she is a higher energy dog, consider feeding a high activity food, or feed a little more then the recomended amount to keep up with that energy.  Like most dogs, the diet may need to change as she ages.

She was adopted from the vet office and had a physical etc.  They were feeding science diet.  I want to find something better then science diet...ugh!  Looking for suggestions for a good food not loaded with garbage and corn to help put weight on gradually...

they know not to over feed etc weight gain takes a while but a better quality food obviously would help her.

Look at a site called the dog food project.com.  Lots of good info to help you compare dog foods.

I've also heard that the supplement Nupro has helped dogs gain weight. Wet food of any decent variety is going to be higher in calories, compared to dry food. Just something to keep in mind.

Did the vet recommend weight gain? How much does she weigh?
