    Digestible Kibble

    I am looking to change our food. I know it takes quite a while for kibble to digest vs Raw
    Or a home made diet. I am just curious is there a kibble that is easier digest?
    We have been feeding candidate because they got ride of our old food.

      That's a bit of a misconception. This is going to sound a little nerdy, but according to Dr. DC Twedt, who is a DVM, DACVIM, and a gastroenterologist, it takes 5 to 8 hours for kibble to pass through the stomach. Anything over that isn't normal and may point to the dog having digestive problems.

    Thank you. That is good to know. Both my books on nutrition had mentioned it taking longer.

    I suspect Kobe does have a digestive problem and have talked to my vet about it and trying to figure out how to help him.

    Are you using any probiotics?Also maybe look into digestive enzymes.Both of these have helped my older dog.I get them from health food stores and always opt for refrigerated probiotics over ones stored at room temp.

    I have not tryed Probiotics yet. We are doing a chewable enzymes tablet. I would like to add some supplements to my dogs diet.

    we have quite a few health stores around here,My fear is not be knowlegable enough about the differance between what dogs can use / handle

    vs humans.

    We do have stuff from the pet supply stores, but once you reach Kobes size it 5 pills ..I be buying a bottle every week and I dont think we could afford that.

       I think any basic probiotic is safe for dogs. I give Jessie ProBioBeads, which I get at a health food store;

      Pro-Bio Beads Solgar Vitamins, Minerals, and Herbs.

      I've also used this product with good results;

    NOW Foods - Acidophilus 4X6 - 120 Caps

      Jessie has chronic pancreatitis and is on a low fat kibble (10% fat).  What type of problems does Kobes have; gas, sloppy stool, vomiting?

    We've had very good luck with Tuscan Natural Simply Pure Lamb/Rice with Echo. she has a touchy tummy and doesn't handle much.  Sloppy nasty poo usually results.

     I ended up switching her onto this food cold turkey and it fixed her poop issue overnight!

    Also, be sure you're not overfeeding, most times I can't feed near as much as the guidelines on the bag says or all my dogs get loose stool.

    Thanks for the info.

    Kobe smacks and burbs a lot, Plus occasional vomiting and his food not seeming digest hours later.My reg vet thought it could be related to his theeth. But we they are looking great.

    I thought maybe he had hartburn.

    My holistic vet thought hartburn could be a side effort sense ant acides help, But he is maybe having trouble digesting .

    Did your vet do dental x rays? Sometimes, dogs and people can have dental abcesses without any visible signs, and the only way to tell is an x ray.
