When Bugsy was a pup he was on fairly normal/average food of about 24-26% protein. He was completely insane, bouncing off the walls insane.
Somewhere along the way I read something about protein and began to add some ground beef (with appropriate calcium) to his meals. He seemed to have a much more even energy (if still on the insane side).
We confirmed his allergies and discovered Orjen fresh fish and haven't really looked elsewhere. He does get some raw or home-cooked meals and some canned tripe meals - overall his diet is now heavy on protein. His treats tend to be high protein too.
His energy is nearly always high but fairly even.
Saturday I picked up a small bag of Innova red meat (free sample 6lbs) and have been throwing half a cup in with his Orjen. This is a food with grain and lower protein compared to the Orjen.
The result.....................boing boing boing zooooooooooooooom boing boing zoom.
He was already a bit hyper due to having a house guest but this stuff is like rocket fuel for him.
Clearly for him carbs/grains are an uneven fuel and much more 'energizing' than high protein (which some say is what contributes to high energy dogs
So has anyone else seen this sort of difference?
Which seems to provide a better energy for your dog?
(oh and no more Innova for him until my mom leaves LOL)
