Appetite in the morning (Echo)

I have noticed Echo's appetite is lessening. She's 11 months old now, so I am assuming about done with the major growing. Seems like she prefers to have just a few bites of something in the morning (she took a couple mouthfuls of THK and half an egg this morning) and walked away, getting her toy and bounding around.

I am just so used to my little bichon chowhounds, it's wierd to see a dog self regulate like that. She does like large meals in the evening though, so I won't worry too much about her; she's at a good weight.

Sound right?

dont' worry. Some dogs do self regulate like that, especially as they get older.

My dogs will actually throw up though if I don't feed them in the morning, they get so hungry.

My Mom's Shih Tzu self regulated once she got out of puppyhood. She too preferred just a mouthful of kibble in the morning and the bulk of her daily diet at night.

Ari on the other hand never leaves a spare kibble to be unconsumed lol. She literally licks the bowl clean after each meal. She's loved the rare times her humans were not on the same page and she got an extra dinner or breakfast lol. I wouldn't worry at all about Echo, unless her weight or energy level changes.

Bailey will throw up if he doesn't eat in the morning, also. Altho... he will eat food at any given time in the day.

Echo sounds a lot like my dad's dog, Jack. He eats a little bit in the morning (kibble, which he is very bored with) but never his full amount. Though, my dad free feeds him ( Indifferent ) so he just ends up picking at it thoughout the day.

My sister's dog Sonoma will also choose play over food (she is almost a year old I think), she never eats her full breakfast in the morning.

My bichon girls will also throw up yellow foam if I don't feed them breakfast on time. The other thing is I notice she doesn't eat as much food as I 'thought' she would- being bigger. I guess it is true that smaller dogs burn more calories than the bigger guys.

She is full of energy and happy so I'll just go with her style of eating.

Rascal often doesn't want his full breakfast either. It's never bothered him. He was free-fed before I got him, so I figure he is just pretty good about self-regulating. As long as Echo seems happy and energetic and still wants to eat at least once a day, I wouldn't worry. :) Maybe start making breakfast more of a "snack" for her, and give her a slightly bigger dinner, so the food doesn't go to waste?

If I don't have something to eat in the morning I feel like gnawing my own arm off. If BF has anything to eat before noon, he feels sick. I guess everyone's designed a little differently!

Lex won't eat his kibble in the morning either, I feed him a milk bone after I let him out in the morning and he is good till the evening. Every so often I will offer him some kibble in the morning just in case he changed his mind, but he never eats it. He didn't start doing this till a few months after we moved to Oklahoma, he was around 2 yrs old.
