How much supplementing is too much?

    Sorry if I'm being annoying/repetitive!

Rascal's on THK Embark right now, but I have to say, he's pooping like crazy and not putting on any weight. He's already on the thin side, but he's starting to get positively gaunt. After I finished freaking out, I started adding in some sardines, meat, etc., and he's putting weight back on (slowly but surely), but still pooping like you wouldn't believe. This morning, I used 5 poop bags on our walk. And each time, it was a "full size serving" poop - not just little dribbles.

So, I like the concept of THK, Rascal LOVES the taste of THK, but it just doesn't seem to be working for him. Right? I don't think I should have to add 1/8c of supplementary meat for every 1/4c of THK - that can't be nutritionally balanced, can it?

Anyone have any suggestions? In the past, I've been feeding Innova EVO and Wellness CORE, and he did okay on both, but occasionally had inexplicable (and fairly violent) bouts of diarrhea towards the end of the bag. I think it was maybe the kibble getting rancid. It made me think THK would be a perfect solution, because of its long shelf-life. Plus I like the idea of fresh, healthy ingredients.

I dunno! What should I do? I can barely get my act together to feed myself, I'm really not up for home cooking for Rascal right now!

Prozyme? It'll help him absorb and digest more of what he's eating.

    I'd definitely add prozyme.

I couldn't keep weight on Bevo when he was eating Embark.  I ended up having to supplement him heavily just to keep weight on him.  A crock pot can be your best friend!

When I was just feeding HK, I had good luck with Force & Thrive for Bevo.  I could keep weight on, or put weight on him with those two formulas, where I couldn't with Embark.

Thanks, guys! I'll enzyme him up. And maybe see if I can get a sample of Force or Thrive. I'd hate to buy another big ($$$) box and have it not work out (again!).

you can also use plain organic unsweetened yogurt. Nancys or Stonyfield are a good brands. My dogs love it on their dinner. You also might want to consider changing the meat source sometimes the kind of meat just does not agree with the certain dogs
