It's another notch in the nutrition disaster belt:
A few years ago, I tried Volhard's NDF on my 2 bichons. Their coats went downhill, their skin turned red and they scratched violently. I was assured it was an "imbalance" correcting itself and to wait it out. I waited until they had nearly no coat on their bellies and chewed their feet bloody. TOok them off NDF and their coats went back to normal. NO more itching and scratching, or hotspots or bloody feet.
Fast forward to a month ago. In an effort to find a food that firmed up Echo's stool, I was urged by (very nice though!) Volhard'ers to try ndf again. Her coat before NDF2 was like silk, thick, beautiful, you could hardly keep your hands off her it was glorious to touch her. Now, I am getting comments from people wondering what happened to her coat! It is sparse, dull, wiry and falling out in clumps. I am feeding it exactly per the directions with the 80/20 meat and she looks terrible. Moth eaten. A complete stranger at a pet store today asked me what happend to her coat to make it so patchy! I wanted very much to believe that this food would work (firmed up the stool wonderfully!), but is has only led to a disaster- and for the price of the food- it has been a very costly mistake!
So if anyone is looking into this food, I do NOT recommend it in the least and I will never, ever try one of their foods again.
Back onto THK which had her coat glorious, just need to work on the poo issue...
