I swore by Blue for a number of years. However, the price has skyrocketed and I'm not so confident in their QC at this point.
TOTW is a grain free and I would not use that for pups. Diamond (who makes TOTW) also has a nice food, quite low priced actually, in For Health. It's available at Tractor Supply and where else, I'm not sure.
I have been feeding Shadow Blue Buffalo Duck and Potato. This is different than the Nutro Lamb Meal and Rice I used to feed him before they got bought out by Mars and changed the formula (idiots). Last year, Shadow developed a soft sac on his neck and it went away and I thought it was maybe just a bug bite. This year, it came back, a little bigger. The vet said it was a fatty cyst, benign, and it is not affecting his health. However, I have begun to wonder if it is due to food, especially now that he is a little over 7 years old. Just now, I have given him some Fresh Pet Select. Once in while, I give him a raw main leg bone from a deer. And could certainly feed him raw, once I get a handle on a recipe and a way to balance calcium. However, at 7 years, he has still shown no signs of hip displaysia, which is common among Labs, the other part of his heritage. This may be due to his bone density being that of a Siberian (per my vet) and his weight is still only 65 pounds, which is slightly over for a male Sibe and slightly under for a male Lab. Anyway, I have begun to wonder if changing his diet to something a little more pure protein and less fat would make fatty cysts, benign or not, less likely. For example, the Fresh Pet Select is low in fat but high in protein. As opposed to most dry kibble, which has higher fat.
