So, I was put-sing around the pet store and saw pet botanics food rolls. Thinking it may be another option to the natural balance food rolls (for treat trainnig), I checked out the ingredients on the itty bitty sample roll. The ingredients were great - beef liver, beef heart, so on and so forth. All the good organ meat stuff. (chicken formula was like this too). So, I went looking for the bigger rolls. However, when I found the bigger rolls (they have the mid-sized and large rolls just like NB) and looked at the ingredients, the ingredients changed for the worse as the size of roll went up! I couldn't believe it. The itty bitty sample roll was packed full of organ meats. The mid- size roll dropped an organ meat or two and sub'd it with a grain product. The largest roll only had 1 meat ingredient and the rest was starches and grains! This seems sooooo sneaky and underhanded to me and should be illegal unless they actually change the name of the product. (they are the exact same name no matter the size of the roll)
Here's how it is advertised: (using the main ingred's)
Lamb & Rice Dog Food Roll
Ingredients: Lamb Meat, Lamb Hearts, Lamb Kidneys, Lamb Lungs, Whole
Wheat Flour, Brown Rice, Wheat Bran, Lamb Fat
Beef & Rice Dog Food Roll
Ingredients: Beef Hearts, Beef
Kidneys, Beef Lungs, Whole Wheat Flour, Brown Rice, Wheat Bran, Beef Fat
Looks good right? I can't find the ingred's anywhere online that shows the difference in ingred's vs size of roll, but I saw it on the packaging in the store. When I brought it up to the check out girl she said "well it probably costs more money to make the bigger the roll" as if this was an acceptable answer lol
Anyway, this makes me wonder about other dog foods now......if this is a common practice or not.
