How I prepare raw diet feeding for my dogs.

Granted not everything is out on the counter like this, as I take them out as I need them, but for the sake of this video, I took it all out so one could see what I am using.

Only things missing in this video is the organ meat, and fish. The reason is as I go back and forth from chicken livers, hearts, gizzards, to like beef liver, it does change. My current beef liver for this evenings feeding is defrosting in the refrigerator. And the fish, the next can of mackerel has not been open yet for tonights feeding.
    Here we go.

Thank you, I know lots of our members feed raw, I have thought about it myself.  I think this is the first time I have seen a typical meal prep.  Do your dogs get kibble at all?  How many meals do they get per day?  Are all their meals raw or do you some time give them cooked?

ETA: Have they been on raw diet since puppy or did you change them over?  What kind of snacks or treats do they eat?

I do not feed kibble at all. I do give kibbles to a young puppy, or weaning pups, but that is it.

I introduce my dogs to raw at 8 weeks old. Its usually just ground- like ground beef, chicken or turkey. You introduce one meat type at a time as not all meats go along with all dogs. Ground chicken is usually a safe bet to start. Then slowly add others = one by one. Like add a little egg, do that a few days, then add one more etc. By 4 months old ( 16 weeks) they are on all raw. Kibble stops basically once I know the puppy is eating enough. Raw food is never cooked. I do not use any grains either. Cooking meats for example loses alot of the digestive enzymes a dog needs to properly digest the raw food. I feed my dogs as adults twice a day. A puppy I will feed 3 times a day until about 14 weeks old.

Kibble may not or should not be mixed with bone type meats. The reason is raw digests faster than kibble. And kibble would slow down the digestion process.

As far as treats, I do give cookies like after they come in. I use almost always Old MOther Hubbard. As far as training treats, I use Cheerios the breakfast cereal. They are small, quick to eat, so the training can move along. Later just a pass by their nose the dog thinks " hmm- must have already eaten it, ' and moves on.

Why only plain yogurt? Pirate says to try BLUEBERRY, lol. So long as it's not the kind with artificial sweeteners (I think I use an organic brand...but I can't think of the brand. Blueberries are good for them, too.

Mine eat plain yogurt, with blueberries added. We don't do flavored yogurt, often, because Jewel rarely gets anything with sugar in it. Occasionally, if *I* am eating flavored yogurt, they'll get a lick, but that's it.

Only because flavored yogurt has added sugars. I am giving yogurt for the digestive enzymes in the yogurt. ( ie no salt or added sugar in the meal)..

Now - as a snack.. well thats another story.. LOL

     Borozimom1,

Around two years back, I decided to stop feeding my dogs commercial dog food; due to the horrific ingredients that a lot of them contain. Over the course of these two years I have seen my dogs become more healthy and energetic. I cant say how pleased I am to see others on this forum who chose to feed their dogs home made food. You have no idea how much "flack" I have taken for not feeding my beloved pets commercial dog food. It seem strange to me that so many people believe the commercial dog food rout is the only way to go about feeding a doggie. What was there to feed a dog before commercial dog food? I mean it hasn't always been around right? Anyways, thank you for sharing your recipes and for the youtube video! Big Smile

Well, after what you and Jennie said, I guess that's true. "Dough-derts" is only a snack food, around here :)

I started feeding raw diet in 1984.. Believe me- most people thought us ' raw feeding' people were Crazy!

This year alone 4 excellent foods are in buy outs to companies that use rendered meats ( including cancerious tumors, beaks, feathers, molded grains- you name it. ) Add the process of kibble is extruded- ie made at high heat which kills the water soluable vitamins. ( and believe me- I could go on..). And have not even mentioned the chemicals...

My grandparents fed raw food. " No use to buy that store bought food..' type- it would take me to the age of 24 to learn just how right they were!

I now all the supplements in with the meat 'mash' and makes it alot easier for sure!
