    dog food flavoring question

My gal will sometimes go on a 'hunger strike' because she is so bored of her kibble.  I only feed her dry kibble, as recommended by her breeder -- plus it keeps her teeth white as snow! (raw and some 'very high quality' brands makes her very runny and vomity -- I feed her mid range Nutri-Source).   I found that if I mix in a tablespoon of peanut butter she will scoff up her meal that she previously turned her nose up to, so I know its not because she isn't hungry. But is that ok to give processed peanut butter every day??   I would like to add a little something in her food to encourage her to eat but do not want to add anything with any additives or unnatural things to her diet; since I spend a small fortune on her food and all-natural supplements -- I would hate to have all that go to waste, just so she will eat -- because then I might as well save my money and buy the cheaper brand.  She is 120 pounds (Great Dane) so she is somewhat on the lean-side -- no ribs are showing, but I think she could add a few more pounds and look better -- if she would eat the recommended 6  cups daily, every day, I'm sure she would put on a few more pounds -- as it is she ranges from 3 to 6 cups daily.  Suggestions? Thx!  (of course I wish I had her resolve Big Smile  )

Try plain yogurt.  Mine get it every day w/their dinner kibble, and they not only love it, but it helps keep gas at bay, so bonus! Big Smile

Or canned food of the same brand (a teaspoon, with warm water), or some chicken or other meat that you make in the crock pot for her. Anything tasty and healthy will work, fine.

Ditto what Jennie said, and it doesn't have to be cooked in a crock pot. It can be baked or braised. Some cooked meat is very appealing to most dogs.

I noticed they have lamb or chicken maybe just change the meat. You could alternate back and forth every couple of months . That looks like a great food why do you add supplements?

No *don't* give peanut butter every day or even NEAR it.  It's VERY hard for them to digest and it is particularly hard on the kidneys for some reason.

Try tahini (it's sesame butter -- tastes a lot like peanut butter but it's actually good for them).

We use canned tripe. It smells absolutely terrible, but Brutus loves it mixed in his kibble.  He has days that he still has no desire to eat, but when the tripe goes in, he's suddenly very interested in food.
