What's in your dog bag?

    What's in your dog bag?

Jackson's entering his first rally trial at the end of June. I've seen owners with all sizes of bag carrying their stuff to and from classes, workshops, trials, etc.

I really don't want to overpack but I would like to be prepared.

So, what's in your dog bag?? What should I be bringing to classes? To workshops? To trials??

...So, what's in your dog bag?? ...

Probably too much.  LOL  Let's see- there's the AKC Obedience & Rally regs, copies of Caleb's AKC & UKC registrations, vaccinations, license, neuter and microchip certs, a key chain with miniature rally signs, a pocket sized calendar, Rally Competition record book, CGC booklet, baby wipes, spare collars, flexi, the leashes I train/compete with, training treats, comb, brush, small towel, anti-slip spray, tissues, Advil, chapstick, flashlight, hand sanitizer, poop bags and a neoprene lunch style bag made for baby bottles (to put a bottle of water and an ice block in)

And a tuggy! And an extra of everything. I am a little bit overprepared, usually, but it's much better than not having enough.

An extra of everything already listed??

My dog BAG?! lol I have a dog VAN.  It has 2-3 kennels (depending on how many dogs vs. people), each kennel has a bed or mat and a water pail, 2 camp chairs, 3 jugs of water, my tracking/chore boots, a large heavy wool blanket, some extra towels and a sheet (sheet is usually hung for shading one side of the van), two containers of kibble, and my umbrella.  There's also a Sterilite container with a basket bolted on top.  The basket contains my retrieve dumbbell, send out marker, a flashlight, and a bike lock (I lock Nikon's crate when he comes to work).  The top drawer contains all of my dog medications, ear and eye creams, dog bug dope/sunscreen, grooming and health supplies, a few scissors and tools, and some random things like extra quick links and zip ties.  The second drawer contains my most common training items - prong collar, two tug toys, two balls, and a short tab.  The third drawer contains all my show collars and leads, brushes, and Miracle Coat spray. The fourth drawer contains other training supplies - clickers, treat pouches, extra balls, tracking articles.  The bottom drawer (much deeper than the others) contains an agitation harness and half a dozen training leashes/lines ranging from 4'-15'.

For shows and trials I also bring a binder that has all of Nikon's registration papers, certified pedigrees, vaccination records, and show cards (but I keep this in the house, I'm required to produce originals at shows however don't want them in the van all the time).  For an indoor event, I'd also bring another kennel (collapsed) to setup indoors, plus the crate cover and my small dolly for hauling stuff in.  I also bring several layers of clothing to any training event or trial.  And obviously, my camera bag with all my camera gear!

For rally trials, my most important things are my camp chair, treats, a regulation collar, and a 6' leash (for honoring).

I don't have an extra of every, single thing, but.... I usually have gum and mints, several drinks, 2 ring-safe collars, 2 ring-safe leads, 2 toys, TONS of poop bags, etc. I double up, because I'm paranoid. I've had to loan things out at trials, in the past. I pulled out Emma's extra collar for a dog who came wearing tags. I just worry that if I forget something, nobody will have one, or my dog will flip out because it smells like someone else.

Since 99% of my doggy activities take place outside, my dog bag contains:

    • doggy first aid kit
    • dog water bottles
    • poop bags
    • extra collars
    • leashes
    • human headlamps that double as lighted collars
    • bells
    • dog tags
    • couple cans of wet dog food (in case I forget treats for SAR training)
    • folder with vet records

    In my car I have

    • no spill water bowl
    • jug of water
    • crates (sometimes)
    • blankets/beds
    • frisbees

Are they not supposed to be wearing their tags??

Not in the ring.  That's what I really like about the Tag It, I just have to unclip it to remove the tags.  I don't like the idea of Caleb being without his tags, so I take his tags off his collar and clip them to the leash for the day, and switch to our show lead a few minutes before we go into the ring.
