     Who evolved them to eat no meat?

    Right now Maze and Sandy are getting home cooked with a small portion of kibble to make up the supplements until I can figure it all out.

      You should make kibble the main portion of their diet until you know how to balance the cooked diet; a small amount of kibble will not provide them with enough nutrients. It is very important that you at least add the correct amount of calcium to balance the phosphorus in the cooked diet. I agree with what Jennie said about Nutritiondata.com, and the table in the book "Optimal Nutrition." You can get " Optimal Nutrition" by Monica Segal here;

     It's $25. The table is in it and Monica Does a great job of explaining how to use it to calculate your dog's nutrient requirements. Good luck.

    Good point. I switched it around tonight. I introduced them to chicken hearts tonight.. that was entertaining..

    Yep, I think the rule is 25% of their total calories. (NOT total 'portion'. Calories.)

    I am not going to argue about dogs not eating meat because I don't like to indulge personal agendas :P All I can say is it's a good thing Pirate gets his protein from meat because he'd be a seizing mess if all his protein came from a stupid soybean.

    Sandy took all the meat and lined it around her dish then sniffed and tentatively chewed on one before the light bulb went off. Maze took a little convincing. Alex and I had to talk her into eating it. Once she realized it was edible, she snarfed it up.

    So should I cut their kibble in half when I add the meat and such?

    Hm, I don't know about half. Look at the bag and see how many kcal per cup. Figure out how many calories are in the dog's typical meal. Divide that by 4. That's how many calories you can replace with home made :)

    I'd be a seizing mess too, if all I had for protein was a stupid soybean! Big Smile

    Well yes, but it's commonly known that epileptic dogs don't handle soy well, at all. Well, sort of, I guess. If you have an epi dog and do a thimble full of research :)

    Kitty, PM me your regular email and I'll send you a link to what I just did on nutritiondata.com :)

    no my dog is a vegetarian not because I am but because he is meat intolerant. So apparently all dogs are not carnivores. I said they can be healthy and I have proved it with my dog. He was very unhealthy when he ate meat.

     Meg, I'm allergic to anything soy. It literally makes my tongue swell instantly and usually dry heaves follow. So I can relate to Pirate.

    A lot of dogs are allergic to soy as well as corn. I think most people know anything about feeding dogs would stay away from those two things.

    Really, Tiffy?! Weird but true I guess. :)

     I know its weird, huh? Its a good thing that I don't care for the taste of soy, so its not like I'm tempted.
