Scenting and Tracking? For a little dog?

Scenting and Tracking? For a little dog?

The new place I'm training at offers scenting and tracking, and it looks like there is a possibility I could make it to one of the times coming up soon. So, does anyone do it? What do you think about trying it out with a cavalier? It'd be some racing around to get to it, so I am trying to decide whether I should race there or not.

poodleOwned does it and I think he has small poodles.  I do tracking but it is Schutzhund tracking which is highly stylized.  No reason why a small dog couldn't do it though.  We start puppies at 7 weeks.

He has a nose, right? LOL

Emma ADORED tracking, but I had to stop, with her, because she was allergic to grass. She'd break out in hives for days afterward.

Bean is doing tracking, now (AKC style), and LOVES it. She is quite collar smart, and knows which harness is for sniffing in. It's helping with her confidence and independance, and I think it's REALLY great for her.

Of course he has a nose. The debate right now, and schedule would be tough for both, is this or contacts and weaves class. Scheduling will be tight for either given my work schedule. Scenting and Tracking might be a bit easier for me I think, and starts a few weeks later, so I can get paid some more before needing to pay for it.

Actually, the sport I think would really be for him, but I just can't swing the schedule for it any time soon, is flyball. I swear, he's not a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, he's a Cavalier King Charles Retriever.  If he's heavy enough to trigger the box, I think he's got a career as a height dog.
