Healthy training treats?

    Healthy training treats?

Since I'm training Simba, I was curious as to some treats would be best to give him? Sometimes I just give him some of his kibble, other times I just give him cut up carrots. What would you guys recommend?

You're definitely on the right pathBig Smile Bits of baked chicken breast, roast beef, green beans, dehydrated liver, and string cheese are on the top of my dogs' list. Emma especially loved green beans. The Crested really LOVES fruit, so I get the Gerber dried fruits, for her.

It's funny, we really don't have much in the way of meat in the house since everyone but Simba and my dad are vegetarians. But I'll definitely get some meat for Simba since I'm sure he'd like that. I've heard of others using string cheese as well.

I'm a vegetarian, too:) String cheese works GREAT, and you can get the individually frozen boneless, skinless chicken breasts at Walmart. They're super easy (just bake it til it's done). I do NOT use lunch meat type things, much, because they're super salty. Try him out on different fruits and veggies. Just no grapes or raisins. My girls love craisins and dried blueberries, too. For bought treats, I do Wellness Soft Bites. They break into 12-16 peices, for one treat, so the dogs just get a *taste*.

Yay for being a vegetarian! :P Are bananas okay for dogs? Since we have a lot of those in the house. I'll check out those dog treats as well. Can you buy those at walmart or just pet stores?

Those are from pet stores. Walmart has No Grainers, which are nice, soft treats that you can cut up for him. Bananas are great! I get the dried Gerber bananas at Walmart, too:) Some of the grocery stores here have some dog food in a fridge called Fresh Pet Select, and that makes great, healthy treats, too. It's a soft, meaty dog food.

OMG, what a great idea!  I never thought of that.  Caleb loves fruit, too, especially bananas.  I was just thinking about dried bananas at class yesterday.

Yup! They have dried apples, too, and Emma liked those pretty well. They're SUPER low calorie, which is important for my little girls. Only 25 calories in 1/4 cup.

I will definitely look at this stuff. Thanks!

Cheap and easy and healthy, IMO, is buying pre-cooked sliced chicken breast from the freezer section at the grocery store. You can then chop it up and put it into little baggies. I also use hot dogs and string cheese.
