Teaching the Stand for rally O

I have been trying to teach Finn the stand command and he is just not getting it, so I have been working it less and less because I am frustrated.  He has picked up everything so far so quickly, that I am just annoyed that he hasn't gotten this yet.  Does anyone have any good tips/tricks for teaching the beginnings of a stand.  Thanks!

It took Benny much less time to learn this command, so I guess I am just not sure where to go from here.

You can  teach a stand on a table. Have the dog sit or stand on a grooming table.  Take a really good treat at nose level.  SLowly move the treat away and up so that the dog's nose follows the treat.  The benefit of the table is the clear edge.  The dog does not move forward which is often what gets in the way.  It is also so different than heel position that the dog does not fall back into the default sit.

I have found really good ideas for training at Holly's Den.  just do a search on that Name.

If you are doing stand during heeling or even if you don't have to, there are a couple of methods that i like.

The first is to slow down and capture a near stand when the dog is still and C+T and go on form there.

I use touch a lot. The second method is

The head placement for a stand is way different than a sit. Place your hand so that the head is slighly down from normal heeling position  So that is where you place you hand and ask for a touch . C+T fast ! You then move from there.  Sometime you might want to look at Kathy Sdao who talks a lot about cues and salience, or making the cue mean something to the dog. She is worth looking at.I changed several things that i was doing because of her DVDs. It is ll about timing and not going for too much too quickly.
