    Opinions on Innova EVO

Hi, I have a 7 year old golden retriever on Natural Balance duck & potato diet for a long time and looking for another trusted brand to switch. The reason is because she has skin allergy, sometimes she chews on her paws and she also has random issues with her ears. The vet thinks it's allergy related. I've done some research on different brands, and it seems Innova has come up a lot. Canidae was also one that I was reviewing on, but it seems they changed their formula and some issue with using contaminated plants? I want to ask the pros and cons on Innova EVO for someone who is feeding his/her dogs with it. It seems to have a high level of protein. Is that a good thing?

Just in my personal opinion its a bad food. My friend fed it to her dog and after a while she had pancreatis. I'm not much of an expert though.

It is actually an excellent food, however, not a choice I would recommend for a dog with allergies, simply because it has a lot of ingredients.  For an allergy dog, a simpler food is better---a food with a single source of protein and a single source carb.  A better choice would be Innova's California Natural line,  Wellness Simple Solutions, or another variety within the Natural Balanace line of foods.

We have used it before.  It worked well for us.  I do think that you can get a comparable food for less money though.

I fed Innova (not Evo) for a while and it was fine, but I felt the Barley in it was giving Heidi the itches.  I agree with allergies, the less ingredients, the better.  Innova can be a bit rich for the sensitive stomach as well.

Rex and Belle eat Evo Turkey large bites and Twister eats the Innova Senior formula.  I've been very pleased with the dogs coats' and overall condition.  Rex was kind of an itchy dog and he completed stopped when I started feeding this food.  It's expensive but I feed much less than with many other foods.

I have an itchy dog, and am currently going through some issue's as well. But one of the foods he did the best on was Purina Pro Plan's sensitive skin and stomach. I know not many are fans of that brand but it did work. You could try Taste of the Wilds Pacific Salmon too, it is grain free.

All of my dogs do well on evo. Small poop output, they don't need to eat a lot of it and their coats are great. It is $$$ though so I switch around to less expensive brands.

For a dog with allergies, who knows. There is a yahoo chat group for dogs with allergies. You might want to check there.

Casey eats the EVO canned (when I use canned) with his BB dry. I've never had any problems using it on and off

While I agree that EVO is a great food, too many ingredients for a potential allergy dog.  I'm afraid that I can't suggest anything other than the Natural Balance as great for allergy dogs.
