Feel better, handsome man. Ouchy backs are no fun at all :(

    Hope Aspen feels better soon!

Using a bag of frozen veggies is less uncomfortable than a bag of ice.  Hope Aspen gets relief as soon as possible.

    Oh no, poor baby!!

Sending lots and lots of healing vibes to Aspen.

Feel better little man.  Ice will definately help.  I hope he feels better today.

I sure hope Pap is feeling better today, I just saw this I myself was down and out yesterday with a virus - yuk.  You should rotate heat and cold, first cold (20 minutes) to reduce swelling and then heat 20 minutes to relax the muscles.  How about a doggie Chiropractor?  Any in you area?  My BFF maltese has cronic back problems and when he goes to his Chiropractor he is so much better.  Good luck and sure hope he is feeling better.

Remember, no stairs for pap, no jumping up or down on things - like chairs or the bed.  And when you lift him hold him tight and straight.  These are everyday things that is typically what causes back problems for our little dogs.

Thirding the ice idea.  Ice for the first couple days after the injury to reduce inflammation, and then later the heat will increase blood flow.  Heat now sends more blood to an already inflammed area and can cause more inflammation.

I absolutely LOVE woodlock oil.  Callie sent me some and it's so great for tense muscles. Smells a little like root beer, but man, that stuff relaxes the muscles in my shoulder girdle like no ones business!  Almost as good as the botox injections which cost 3 grand!  And much less costly!

No advice, but i hope he feels better soon!!

Warm hugs and kisses for Aspen from Bonnie and me.  I know how it hurts, I remember the pain my little April was in with her problems.  Get well soon Aspen!

Thanks everyone for your thoughts & advice.  I got a bag of frozen peas for his back & wow, he seems to be happy for the first time in a day & a half.  He's resting comfortably.  *sigh of relief*.  Tomorrow he goes in for his yearly & I've already warned my vet that there's more to talk about than just vacs.

I know this may seem silly but I'm kind of concerned about introducing so many new things for him to injest.  Normally I'll work him into something new to make sure it doesn't upset his system in any way.  I know that the chamomile is fairly innocuous (sp?) & milk thistle is supposed to support liver function & metacm is to help him feel a little better but I still worry about one of them making him feel icky.  I mean the poor guy feels cruddy as it is.  He doesn't need upset tummy or poopies.  Yup!  I'm a worrier.

Swissy, Thanks for reminding me about a Chiropractor.  My old vet had one.  That's another thing to ask Dr. S. about tomorrow.  Aspen is lucky if I let him walk at all. ~L~  Okay, slight exaggeration there.  He really hasn't wanted to move much.  We're working on "Wait" which means, "don't move a muscle.  I'll get ya."  He'll get it.  He's smart but a little pigheaded.

The milk thistle AND chammomile should actually *help* not hinder at all.  The milk thistle will help the body process the Metacam better and won't let the liver values go up.

The chammomile is just plain feel good & settle your tummy stuff.

Peanut (aka Aspen) woke me this am @ 4:30.  He's like his mama when he's in pain.  We both tense our muscles.  The way Peanut manifests his pain is not by yelps but by shaking.  I call them "the shaky jakes".  Anywho, Aspen woke me with the shaky jakes this am.  Poor guy.  I managed to get in to see my vet earlier than my appointment,  I was lucky to see the vet that diagnosed his slipped disk.  Side note -- last Fall I had the joy of getting to know ALL the vets in this practice since all my fur kids had health issues.  So, since we saw Dr. D, again we didn't need to go over some stuff again.  Nice.  We decided that Pred was to be kept in available in case things get really ugly.  Metacam wasn't an option since he was in spasm.  We're going with a muscle relaxant that I can't remember the name of as needed.  I'm keeping up with the good advice that Callie gave & passed that on to my vet.  He knew that Chammomile was a nice tea to drink but didn't know of some ofhte other benefits of it.

Anyway, peanut is relaxing in one ofthe many beds around the house & I hope he's feeling better.  Thanks everyone for your advice & wishes.

I HAVE to add that Dr. D. LOVES Aspen.  He's a GSD man but really likes my boy.

I had a feeling it might be time for pred -- it's a nasty drug but man, there are TIMES when it's great.

How's the little guy doing today?
