Has anyone heard of this nail tool?

Onyx doesn't get her head anywhere close to the Dremel.  She pretends she's some very important client and really has other things on her mind.  And then everytime I shut the thing off she gives me a kiss on my cheek.  I do the same thing when I give blood.  Well, I don't kiss the nurse, but I pretend there is something really interesting to stare at on the other wall so I don't have to look at the needle going into my arm.

I have to noose Crusher or he just yanks his paws away.  He'd rather I use the clippers, but I like the smooth finish from the Dremel.

He's nails pretty much take care of themselves with all the walking we do

Man, I sure wish that was true with my dogs!  I walk the crap out of them - no go.  I've tried walking on concrete.  I've even tried to encourage digging but their nails grow so fast and are like steel!  It must be what I feed them or something.

No matter what I do it's going to be slow going.  The dogs when I got them were totally unsocialized and scared and my sister did their nails first and quicked them.  Then the next time I took them to a vet - quicked again.  Now the boy especially becomes a bit hysterical when you bring anything close to his feet.  Otherwise he lets me handle his feet with no problem.

I still haven't received mine yet.

I'm glad I searched for this topic before starting a new thread on it.   I had asked on another Board but no one has come back with their personal experiences, so I'm happy to read them here!

I looked at the videos on the Peticure website, thinking that I could just purchase the guard to fit my rotary tool.   Unfortunately, I have a Craftsman and there is nothing to screw off in order to screw ON the Peticure guard as the video shows.

I would be VERY interested to know if there is "a way around this."   Steve?
Maybe I can just use Duct Tape?   Devil
But my Craftsman tool looks much smaller than a Dremel, perhaps a mini size.
It has a recharger, not batteries, and I usually use the high speed to get enough grinding action for my Weims tough nails.

My Rudi is so good that today I managed to clip his nails while he was laying down, thumping his tail in glee, and my husband was stroking his chest.   It was easy, but I really need to take off more than this clipping technique allows.    I usually follow up the clipping with grinding.   That's why I'm interested in the guard.   I'm tired of constantly blowing on their nails to keep the dust from flying in my face!

Now my Sophie is a different story.   It takes two of us to clip her nails.   The Peticure video shows a technique for "difficult dogs", where the person literally pins the dog to the mat and Peticure's-away at the nail.   Looked simple, so I tried that approach on Sophie today.   I think I need to polish my technique.   She slipped back under my legs and escaped.     Methinks the Peticure really needs to show a "difficult dog" on that video!   So I'm going to volunteer Sophie.   Wink

Since this has been brought up again, I wanted to check to see if you ever got yours and how it was working?

We have been following this for months, Folks I know with them LOVE them unless they are pro groomers then it is a 50/50 split.  It can stop grinding if pressed too hard.  The adapter is a special hood that fits specific dremels, so you can buy the entire unit with dremel for something like 60.00 or just the hood for around 20.00 BUT  you have to make sure your dremel is one of the ones it will fit. The company had a LOT of problems with delivery and batteries at first but has gotten much better , it is made in China but was developed and the home office is in Texas.

There is a pro-groomers web site I will have to hunt for that had many , many views etc.

I plan on getting one now that the battery issues have been resolved... there is still some customer service problems but......

Cheapy, dollar store, safety glasses are what I use for toenail dust. I use a regular dremel, and wouldn't want a hood on it. I like to see what I'm doing, when I have a power tool to a dog's body.

I saw an ad for the peticure too and was wondering about it.  What is a Dremal exactly and where can you buy them.  I have tried several nail clippers from the the pet store and all of them only last for a couple of uses and then don't clip very well any more.  If you use a Dremal do you not need to clip also?  I would much rather buy something and do it myself then go every few weeks to have it done.

A dremel is a power tool! You can get them at Walmart, or Lowe's, or Home Depot. They're over by the drills and stuff like that. Not in the pet section, or the nail section, LOL.

I dremel my dogs' nails every other day (one dog a day!), and I don't have to trim them. I am maintaining show short nails, though. For a dog that doesn't have orthopedic issues, and isn't competing in conformation or agility, less often is probably fine. My friend does her dogs once a week, and their feet look great. I'm just OCD about it.... I plan on showing Ena, and I can't do what some show people do, so her nails are being backed up slowly.

I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my Peticure. I ordered the corded unit rather than the battery one.  With 9 large dogs and some very tough nails a battery unit would never last through the process.

The advantage to the hood is the dog is less stressed, the noise is muted a bit , the dust that you avoid with safety glasses does not exist to bug the dog. You also have the added advantage of being able to the hold or prop the hooded end of the dremal as it is not spining and you can increase your control.

Fingers are crossed it arrives before the National Specialty late September.... I want to get all of my dog's nails back in shape asap and my old dremel grew "legs" and walked off at a show !!Crying

Doing one dog's nails doesn't bother me. It's doing nails alllll day that makes the toenail dust get to you, LOL. Nine dogs' worth is pretty annoying. I'm sure that you know, hehe. Put that on top of the undercoat in my eye and the Cocker coat stabbing my elbow... and I'm done! I'd almost be tempted to buy one of those if they had enough power. I use a really fast dremel, now, and absolutely love it. Emma appreciates the quickness of it, a lot, especially on her bad leg. The length of time it vibrates makes a big difference. Vibrating that hip hurts.
