I use Coat Handler shampoo and conditioner on Presley, 2-3 times a month.  I feed him The Honest Kitchen "thrive" formula. He got on his ears, then he chewed the tips.Stick out tongue  I did some "work" on him this weekend, great scissoring practice!  He doesn't have much coat on his neck, I took it off last year when I scissored a x-mas wreath around his neck.  So, I guess he technically is in a "lamb" clip.

That's a very pretty lamb clip! I'd like to see the photos of the wreathSmile

    ETA: You need a snood!

No you don't!  I usually take a bunch of photos of all my grooms.  The wreath looked so horrible, I only took one poor quality photo.  Plus, Presley was still growing out of that wretched Miami clip, so his legs are flared.  There are a lot of bad things about the groom, plus there is cluttered junk in the background.

Where might I find a snood?  Have you seen them in action?  A friend of mine suggested putting socks over his ears while he eats/drinks, pinning them together in the back.   Same concept I guess?  I'm thinking of switching him back to kibble anyway, this stuff isn't working out for us so swell.

LOL You're your own worst critic. I haven't ever even had a chance to work with that much hair on a Poodle. When they bring them in with any decent amount of coat, they always want them shaved. Stick out tongue

A snood... yes, I've seen them in action. I've only ever seen them for sale at a dog show, but I bet you could get one on Ebay or something like that. It would be pretty easy to make, too. It's just a sleeve that goes around the dog's head.

Really?  LOL, That's kind of sad.  Most of my Poodle clients have this much coat, or more.  However, I only have one Bichon is who kept up properly, and only one Shih-tzu who is growing very slowly out of a #7 lamb-style clip.  Most people around here don't brush their pets, or not very well if they do.

This little Toy named "Hattie" is the only Poodle besides Presley whom I experiment on.  LOL, She has a VERY gracious owner!  There are lots of little things that are incorrect, I won't even get started!  She isn't really the best quality dog anyway.

    Enjoy!

Just had to add that I tried Plush Puppies Volumizing Cream on Luna and she went from moderate coat to fluff ball. Seriously, she looks like she has twice as much fur, and the folks at our club commented that she looked like a different dog. Guess I know what we'll be using in the show ring this season. :)

That Poodle is cute! I don't get to do anything fun. I do a few Miamis, and a few Town and Countries. That's about it. I did buy some Blo Pens, today, so hopefully, somebody will let me stencil their dog. Emma gets to be my first experiment in stenciling wiggly creatures.

So... add Blo Pens to my list of grooming products, LOL. On topic, right????

My dogs are pretty easy.  For every day grooming, I just wash with one of my million shampoos...my favorites are Tropiclean Oatmeal/Tea Tree, SPA Lavendar, and Shimmer Lights.

I was thinking about trying Tropiclean Oatmeal & Tea Tree shampoo on Aisha, because she has dandruff. I was wondering if you could give me your opinion on it seeing how you use it? Thanks Smile

I LOVE the Tropiclean!  Its easy on their skin and seems to get them really clean.  I would also look to why she has dandruff.  What food are you feeding and are you supplementing with anything?  Sometimes it takes a food change along with a good shampoo to clear up dry skin.  Other times, it might just be because its winter and the air is dry.

    Okay I have another question...

SPRAYS/LEAVE-IN... what do you use. I dislike bathing Kayla a lot since she'll get dander from dry skin. Giving her a nice mist down, brush, and blow-dry does wonders.

    Any suggestions?

Shampoo and conditioner should only every benefit your dog's skin and coat.  If I was in your predicament, I would try out some other products on your dog, being sure to rinse, rinse, rinse.  I bathe my Standard Poodle 2-3 times a month, and he never ever has dry skin.  Low-humidity may also be causing her skin to dry out as well.  You might try running a humidifer in your house for a few days, and see what happens.

ETA:  In your earlier post, you don't list a conditioner.  Like, the kind you apply right after shampooing.  Are you using one?  That alone will make a HUGE difference.

    • Gold Top Dog

I do use conditioner. Right now I'm looking at different options for Shampoos & Conditioners tho... don't like mine. I just feel like they are "cheapy pet store brands" and I'm looking for top quality. I want to try chris christenson actually. Might order some online.

I dislike bathing her a lot because it causes a lot of dry skin and irritation. But because of dirt and mud outside I like to sprits her down with water & grooming sprays, then brush through, then blow dry. It looks like she just took a bath (but didn't) and is less harsh on her skin.

There are a bunch of grooming sprays on the marketing I'm just not sure which one to get since I enjoy using them a lot.
