CALL THE POLICE. If you do not report this how would any one know you or your own family didn't do this horrible thing?? It can flip on you just that fast and easy. Document everything, and I mean everything. on your calendar note the incident with the poodle woman and her bf. Then the attack on your boy.... the date you were able to transport him to the vet, the amount seriously document everything. Put a No Tresspassing sign in your yard. They cost little and it establishes in the eyes of the law that you are not inviting or welcoming random callers on your property.
I didn't notice if you said your yard was fenced? If not how do you confine your two dogs to your yard? Tell your DH that with him on the road you could easily have been the one who was beaten!! With the dogs in the house they would be barking while you are phoning the police. If that does not encourage him mention they might run off with his tv or fishing gear.... He has to realize you were literally yards away from some one commiting a violent assualt on your "property" (I know to you and I they are fur kids but some folks can't see them that way) It could be the family truck next , something that would really jack up your insurance to repair.
Speaking of insurance with a police report you might be able to claim this on your home owners... check into it, I know how crippling vet bills can seem.
Never give a dog aspirin! They can actually bleed to death with even a minor dose. Ascriptin is as close as you would want to try, you can get it at any drug store. I know your hands were tied by circumstance but could you have called your breeder? If not, do you have any one with vet or nursing experience that could advise you in the event of another emergency? I would happily give you my private email if it would help you. I am sure many others would too. The only real drawback about the forum is many of us don't check it daily. pm me if you need my private info.
All 8 of my dogs are house dogs. We truly believe it makes them a superior dog, they learn the family rythyms and needs quickly, they respond to health needs , to emotional needs and to the general security of the home with greater personal feeling than a yard dog. Sadly pits get such a bad rap everyday. If you have them outside is there a way to protect them? Inside crates are wonderful. My pack rotates who sleeps in and who sleeps in crates. All learn quickly as they are fed only in thier crates, thier water buckets are in there, I pad them with clean blankets and never crate them as a punishment.
I hate that this happened to max, poor baby boy! I lost a 2 year old champion to some freak who was poisoning dogs in our county. 77 dogs 40+ cats and a horse were all proven to have been killed by this maniac who threw poisoned food in yards. I have a 6 foot privacy fence, live in a great neighborhood and never saw it coming. Entire deer packs were killed among many other purebreds... it is thought many mixes were also killed but the owners didn't realize or didn't invest in the tests post mortum to be sure. He was never officially "caught". It just stopped. Best guess is some good old boy did catch him and took care of it himself. We don't play in Southern Alabama.
please be safe and keep all of us posted on max.
