My Dog was beaten nearly to death.

Just got back from my vets. Other then a goosebump and a limp in his walk the Vet said Max should be just fine. He told me to keep max front leg as comfy as I can. So for the next two weeks or so max will be an inside dog day and NIGHTS*lila too!!!!* So everything is fine...Mostly.

I was told my deleted husband not to spend over 40$ on both Max and Missys shots. Well Missy shots and meds came out to 105 and maxs....735. My husband isn't talking, looking, at me. He even suggusted dumping my dogs if he has to pay for the bill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thankfully my vet gave us 30days to come up with the cash.  I could careless what the cost really is, So long as my dogs get treated! But being a stay at home mommy... My husband controls everything dealing with money.=(

While at the vets office Missy was almost agressive, So my vet  wife gave me a flyer about a local puppy classes! I want to take Missy, its a 5week training onces a week and its cheap! 50$!!!! But ATM I was to scared to bring it up to deleted.

Maybe you could work something out with your vet before you get too far behind....and your husband doesn't pay.   I dont' know,,,like try to "work" some of the bill off or so.  Our clinic always has kennels that need to be cleaned and all.   Its a lot of money to pay when you have to depend on a husband that doesn't want to pay.  Good luck!   I

And by the way,,I'm so happy that Max is doing okay....I'm glad you came back to tell us. I still think you should call the police. In fact maybe if you did..they would find the guy and maybe HE would have to pay that vet bill. He SHOULD!!!

Im not going to bother with the police, They have never came out this from from town* I live 15miles out in the country*

Max is doing good tho. His a bit skittish if you move to fast towards him but his trying to hump missy.LOL So I guess his feeling his oats.

    1.  You *must* report this to the poilice/sheriff.  This was on your property.

    2.  I'm glad you brought the other dog in -- I'm not understanding what you 'need' to have them inside.  Are they not housetrained?

    3.  I wish I'd seen this earlier -- The eye that was so mangled should be covered and kept moist until the vet can determine if it can be saved.

     4.  Even wooden lattice (like you'd use in a garden for plants to creep up) is cheap and can make easy 'baby gates' to section off a room to keep the dog contained in a corner.  and just folded up sheets or old blankets make a fine bed -- you don't have to 'buy' something to make a dog bed.

Let us know how you're doing!!  Callie

Next time aim, and shoot more than once.  Anyone who does this to a dog deserves to live less than the dog does.  I have no tolerance for crap like this, the next bat incident may involve a person.

    • Gold Top Dog

I'm so glad to hear that Max is going to be ok!   Poor guy, must have been so scared.  I can't believe someone would do this.  As Callie and lots of others have mentioned... please do think of reporting this to the police.

At this point, I'd be considering three things.  Cannon instead of 22.  Divorce.  Move to a different state.  Anyway, glad Max is OK.  Please don't leave the dogs outside alone again - that creep might come back to finish the job, or toss poison across your fence or something.

Makes me glad I don't live where you live.  I don't know if I would have aimed for the pecan or a different set of nuts. Tongue Tied

Wow, I am just now reading this, I am really sorry what happened to your dog.

Is there any reason why someone would want to take a chance of getting caught, just to get to your dogs, and beat one of them? Is there a way your dogs could stay inside from now on?

    • Gold Top Dog

Wow I posted just as you were posting I guess.  If you're that far out of town then no one was just casually walking past your home either -- so frankly I *would* report it.  And a lot of us have survived "the first husband" -- and Spiritdogs, myself and others probably have some really severe personal feelings about being 'controlled' ... but that's another topic.

Just be careful -- either someone is upset with your dog's barking or they've got a problem with you as a family and this frankly could get nasty.  No, I'm not going to tell you to get a bigger gun, because then THEY get a bigger gun and someone gets dead or in jail for the rest of their lives and that's no good option.  Just be careful.

I think I know who it was but no way of telling for sure. The chick down the street whos poodles attacked me the other day, I personally knnow her and she KNOWS I LOVE MY DOGS, I think it was her BF John. Same build and the day before I confronted her about her dogs running loose.

CALL THE POLICE.   If you do not report this how would any one know you or your own family didn't do this horrible thing?? It can flip on you just that fast and easy. Document everything, and I mean everything. on your calendar note the incident with the poodle woman and her bf.  Then the attack on your boy.... the date you were able to transport him to the vet, the amount seriously document everything.   Put a No Tresspassing sign in your yard. They cost little and it establishes in the eyes of the law that you are not inviting or welcoming random callers on your property.

I didn't notice if you said your yard was fenced? If not how do you confine your two dogs to your yard?  Tell your DH that with him on the road you could easily have been the one who was beaten!! With the dogs in the house they would be barking while you are phoning the police. If that does not encourage him mention they might run off with his tv or fishing gear.... He has to realize you were literally yards away from some one commiting a violent assualt on your "property" (I know to you and I they are fur kids but some folks can't see them that way) It could be the family truck next , something that would really jack up your insurance to repair.

Speaking of insurance with a police report you might be able to claim this on your home owners... check into it, I know how crippling vet bills can seem.

Never give a dog aspirin! They can actually bleed to death with even a minor dose. Ascriptin is as close as you would want to try, you can get it at any drug store. I know your hands were tied by circumstance but could you have called your breeder? If not, do you have any one with vet or nursing experience that could advise you in the event of another emergency? I would happily give you my private email if it would help you. I am sure many others would too. The only real drawback about the forum is many of us don't check it daily. pm me if you need my private info.

All 8 of my dogs are house dogs. We truly believe it makes them a superior dog, they learn the family rythyms and needs quickly, they respond to health needs , to emotional needs and to the general security of the home  with greater personal feeling than a yard dog. Sadly pits get such a bad rap everyday. If you have them outside is there a way to protect them? Inside crates are wonderful. My pack rotates who sleeps in and who sleeps in crates. All learn quickly as they are fed only in thier crates, thier water buckets are in there, I pad them with clean blankets and never crate them as a punishment.

I hate that this happened to max, poor baby boy! I lost a 2 year old champion to some freak who was poisoning dogs in our county. 77 dogs 40+ cats and a horse were all proven to have been killed by this maniac who threw poisoned food in yards. I have a 6 foot privacy fence, live in a great neighborhood and never saw it coming. Entire deer packs were killed among many other purebreds... it is thought many mixes were also killed but the owners didn't realize or didn't invest in the tests post mortum to be sure. He was never officially "caught". It just stopped.  Best guess is some good old boy did catch him and took care of it himself. We don't play in Southern Alabama.

please be safe and keep all of us posted on max.

I have a 5 1/2 foot fence all around my yard with "BEWARE OF DOGS" , "NO RESPASSING" and a  "PRIVATE PROPERTY" sign all along my front fences. I don't feel the police will do anything for two reason

    1. In 2003 my brother roomate set fire to his house *be blamed my brother who was passed out from work, I had just left my brothers.* The roomate escaped the fire with his 4 children and cat  leaving my brother passed out in the chair. His Pit Bull was in the middle of pulling him out of the hosue when the Police and fire Dep showed. Over two months they looked into the case the police never found anything that could have caused a fire but decided to close the case even with the knowladge that I had witness the roomate and my bro fighting the day before over rent being paid. So my brother died and the police didnt do CRAP!* His Pit also died later =( She was a good girl*

    2. I rather have revenge with a base ball bat upside the guys head then the police doing the "right" thing  if and when they find the guy. Out here damaging property and or lifestock s upwards of a 1000$ thats it.

And when the guy gets back things will get worse , Max or all my dogs might die. There are some crazy people in this world, You can't trust ANYONE who isnt blood* and even then I still dont trust alot of them...lol*

If you have a 5 1/2 ft. fence and no trespassing signs posted, than thats trespassing if he was in your yard. If the police won't do anything, than you should go to the next higher authority and file a complaint and insist on getting this guy for trespassing. It could be you or one of your children next.

I'm glad your Max is going to be OK but I want to say that just because you chose to be a "stay at home mom" it does not mean that you're not contributing. Because you stay at home with your kids, you don't have to pay for day care, work clothes, extra gas, lunches out etc. And IMO it most definitely doesn't mean that you don't have a say in financial matters. This lunatic obviously came onto your property with every intention of maiming or killing your dog, so YES ... absolutely report it.

Its true. I was also a stay at home mom,,,until my youngest was bigger, and then I worked part-time when my kids were in school.  Actually, my DH liked it that way, always supper on the table,, a clean house ( fairly..Surprise )never had to worry about someone being home with the kids. Let them go find someone to do what a stay at home mom does and pay then per hour/day..and see what that costs them.

Was your dog behind that fence when that guy came to beat on him?

It sounds like you might be afraid to call the police because of retaliation, but it might be more dangerous to not call. The guy is a head case...as as was pointed out in the above posts...what will happen the next time? Will he come back to finish the job?  Will it be your kids?  And what about others,,,, you could help save other dogs/people from this monster.
