BJW - I feed mine Solid Gold Lamb and Rice... where were you looking for dog food? Supermarkets won't carry the better brands. You'll find the ones we are talking about at small 'specialty' pet stores, some of the larger chains and even some feed stores. Try going to teh website of a food you are interested and you can normally do a search on locations near you that carry that brands.
Oh, and something your kids can learn to do is massage on that side of her hip. Canine massage and accupuncture are great to help with the pain. Also... lots of swimming, not just fetch the stick, becuase that involves jumping and stop/go but actually swimming next to the kids in a lake or river for long periods of time to strengthen the muscles around her joint without causing pain and damage.
Rups mom - I wouldn't do the pill, i'd do the powder, when you add it to water or no sodium meat broth to mix with the food it dissolves and is easier for the body to digest. For Rupert I would give 1/2 scoop or a little less per day. The powder is cheaper than the pills as well... for the amount you'd be using a canister will last beyond two months.
As for a good supplement... consider glyco flex III, they actually reasearched that formula to make sure there is optimum absortion by the body where it is needed. Some of the cheaper formulas are actually different forms of the ingredients and it is not known how much they actually abosrb. I got an awesome deal onlin by buying four containers at once...sure it was a lot up front but it was the cheapest way to go. PM me if you'd like the online company I got it through.
