    bumps on body, pictures included

Hi, my dog has been getting these bumps, almost pimple like in nature on her body recently (1 year old female boxer mix). I gave her a bath with that Oatmeal baking soda shampoo and it looked like the next day all the bumps were gone!! Over the next few days I noticed she was getting them again and now she has more. It's really easy to see the small ones in the sunlight at a certain angle. I took a few pictures to try and show you (see below).  Looking around on her body and don't see any fleas or ticks or critters of any kind either.  Apparently it wasn't bath wipes causing the problem like I thought.  Someone in a forum told me they are "fatty deposits" - could it be from the olive oil I'm putting in her food? (as there is a lot of fat in it)  The only other thing I could think of that might cause something like this intense heat itself outside (I'm in Vegas and it's 108 today)... I appreciate any input you may have. If you don't see the pictures, try refreshing the page, sometimes filelodge.com stinks
    Thanks!

Just my opinion, but those aren't fatty deposits. The fatty deposits I've seen are quite a bit larger than this.   If you scrape the area where the bump is, what's underneath?  It looks like sores, but it's hard to tell from the picture.  Without knowing more about that, I can't really tell.  My lab is fighting off a bacterial skin infection and the first week or so, she had these bumps (sores) on her back.  If you scruffed the area it was dry skin/scab coming off.  Is that what you see?

Have you been to a vet? That looks like some sort of skin infection, to me. It doesn't look anything LIKE fatty tumors.

I haven't been to the Vet, yet. I just adopted her May 6th (she didn't have any of these bumps when I got her)
I did contact the Vet my trainer uses so I will be speaking with her soon.  Some of the bumps are small, some are bigger and plump with I guess puss inside. And some just look like pink little pimples.  What was amazing was how they dried up and went away (for some reason) and now they're back again.  We bought some bath wipes for in between baths, thought it could be that.  I'm also giving her dentaclean rinse in her water, as well as olive oil in her food for her coat and naturally dry skin.. Also, the bumps don't bother her at all (she never scratches or licks them or anything like that)  I'm sure I'll take her to the Vet but it's always nice to go in somewhat educated..

I agree with Cathy and Jennie; these are not fatty deposits; my dog has some and they don't look anything like this; also a dog wouldn't have this many of them. This is probably a skin infection since you said some of the bumps had pus inside. Please take her to the vet before this spreads even more. It may be bothering her more than you think; many dogs are stoic and don't show signs of pain.

She looks like a beautiful girl and good for you for adopting her.  My lab has lots of skin problems as I mentioned and these bumps do seem to appear, heal and then flake off, but then more appear.   Your girl may have some allergies.  If you're not already feeding her a premium dog food, I'd suggest switching to one.  If you're not sure what those are, read the nutrition threads and you can get a lot of info.  The bath wipes probably won't help with this.  Try a medicated shampoo, even Selsun Blue, and finish with a rinse of 1:4 vinegar/water.  It help balance out the ph on her skin.  You might consider getting some Omega 3/6s instead of the olive oil too.  You can either use salmon oil and add Vit E, or you can use Derm Caps ES or 3V caps which are made especially for dogs.  I honestly think a trip to the vet is the first place to start though.

She was eating Nutro Natural and then I switched her to Canidae after reading a bunch of posts.
I plan to make an appointment with the Vet tomorrow to find out...

Canidae is a good food.  Unfortunately, it didn't help with my labs allergy problems, but I wouldn't make another switch until you find out a little more.  Good luck to you and your new girl.

Just got a reply on another post:
Looks like two of our dogs looked last month. They had hives, gave them over the counter bennadryl cleared right up. This is a very bad year for allergies in pets and people. Just look up benadryl dosage for dogs on the internet or give your vet a ring.

Thoughts on it being hives like this person said?

We can't see your dog. We can't put our hands on her, and we aren't experts (though, sometimes, our dogs seem to give us exams, LOL). It's a really good idea to take her to a vet.

I talked to my trainer's Vet earlier on the phone and she suggested the Benadryl thing before I even mentioned it so I feel better about giving it to her now.. She said to try it for a few days to see if it helps... Here's a few pictures, her name is Star, she's a lil furball of energy!

Welcome to the forum. She's a pretty girl and bless you for taking in a rescue. It looks to me like a staph infection. Bathing her is one of the things you should do, but she will need topical and oral antibiotic's to fight this infection. That is what it looks like to me. When you take her to the vet have her thyroid checked to make sure she isn't hypothyroidism and things are functioning correctly.

Please read my email to my trainer and give your thoughts?

    Hi Maria,
Well I started her on the Benadryl last night. She just had her third one.  However, now I'm wondering if it's that food I switched her to that is causing the bumps.  I don't know how much you know about dog food but I'm sure it's a lot more than me! Here is a link to what I put her on: [linkhttp://canidae.com/dogs/all_life_stages/dry.html]http://canidae.com/dogs/all_life_stages/dry.html[/link]
From the description and everything about it, it sure seems like a great choice based on what they wrote.  If you have time, would you look at that page, the ingredients list, and see if there's anything jumps off the page at you that might be causing what you saw in the pictures?  Here's a link to the food she was on when we got her (and when she was also bump-free):

Thanks again for the input. I've read so much stuff on Forums today about Vets putting peoples' dogs on expensive antibiotics one after another which just seem to treat the condition temporarily.  I'm a lot more interested in nailing down the problem without having to go through all that.  I tend to be a creature of logic and based on the fact she had no bumps at all when we got her, I have to believe it isn't something chronic and must be caused by something I did.

dax, I hope I don't offend you because that's not my intention but why haven't you taken your dog to the vet?  You've had her since May 6th so there's been ;plenty of time to take her for a thorough exam; shelters require owners who adopt to take the cat or dog to the vet ASAP whether or not they show signs of an illness.

Hi, no offense taken.  Perhaps I should have mentioned that I got her from a rescue group who rescued her from a shelter.  She was fixed the very night before I adopted her from that rescue group so she was thoroughly examined at that time.  I should have been more clear when I said "adopted" so you understood she didn't come directly from the shelter to me.  To add to that, with that rescue group, she came with a free vet visit and I did take her for that free visit and she was examined by him (at that time she was bump free).
