    Any large dog owners

have problems with vomiting? We have a 1 year old DDB, he about 130 pounds and healthy. Every now and then, Baldwin will have problems keeping his food down. This am for the first time, he dry heaved. Clearly he was trying to throw up, but nothing came out. The first thing that entered my mind, blout. I checked his stomach and there was no swelling and he seemed relaxed and comfortable.
I have had several conversations wit hthe Vet about this vomiting from time to time. But he really doesnt think its anything to worry about. We have given him pepto pills from time to time to sooth his stomach. I m not certain if i should have concern regarding Baldwin not keep his food down. Any insight would be great.

Danes here. How often is every now and then? Once a week? Once a month?

We think my Lab is crossed with Dane.  He's about 90lbs. and he throws up about 3-4x a month.  Usually not anything significant - and when I was reading Dogs in Canada this month - it mentioned that sometimes vomiting helps with gas in the stomach.  *wierd*

It's not usually caused by anything different - just sometimes he throws up.

Unfortunately ... usually on the sofa, dog bed, carpet .... never on the linoleum....[:@]

They come in spurts. This am Baldwin dry heaved while being walked. I think Monday or Tuesday am vomitted. Right before his walk at 6.30 am he drank some water and puked his food up from the previous night..
Other than this week, its been 3 or 4 few weeks since he has vomitted.

I have a Dane for a year and a half, I'm never seen her throw up, thank God. However, my sons Dane Ollie is a "thrower upper!" He has spots all over their carpeting and all over my other sons house where he used to live. There is also a few on mine from when he used to be here all the time.
Ollie drinks tons of water, don't know if that has anything to do with it,,,he always did. Bubblegum hardly drinks water.     I would watch how much your dog drinks and how much running around he does after he eats or drinks..maybe that will help a bit.

years ago I had a large malamute/Shepherd mix (aka GermanMute) that seemed to enjoy upchucking.
She didn't throw up constantly but now and then that deep hurka hurka noise at 3am that gets ya running.

My brother's gsd seems to have a puke prolbem. I have never seen a dog throw up so much in all my life, but be so healthy. It's like a hobby of his or something.

I have a great dane and she is very active and ever so often maybe 2 times a month she will throw up.  Sometimes its after drinking a large about of water or just early morning.  On the other hand my mothers dane as thrown up 2 times in the 2 years she has had him.  I just think it happens some time cause she is healthy as can be and eats normally.

Only pic i have of  her cause cam needs batteries. (back when her jaw was broken) but thats my girl.

My golden will puke once in a while, usually after she runs out and eats horse apples! YUK! I guess I'd puke too.

[:)]Maybe its a reaction to the food you feed. What do you feed?

Thanks and yes she is a reall pretty girl.  She broke her jaw because i'm sure any dane owner knows that when they are puppies its next to impossible to wake them up, and well when my mother's boyfriend was leaving for work and i was ran inside just for a second he ran her over with his ford f150.  Thankfully i came outside right when it happened so i heard her muffled yelp, so only the back end not the heavier front end ran her over.  I call the vet right after i scooped her up and noticed her bottom jaw was no longer straight and pointing over to the left.  We rushed her in and they said we could do surgury or put a muzzle around it (since she was only 3 months) and it will heal.  I opped for the muzzle.  After long months of pain, feeding her wet dog food with water added, and the small infection she got from the muzzle keeping her skin wet.  She is all healed up and doing great.  I also found this picture of her taken a little before her jaw was broken.

Athena doing what we call her pretty girl paws.  LOL!
