I believe that this drug given with prednisone can be even worse..so beware please.

In the past I have used Rimadyl or Deramaxx and was always told NEVER to give Prednisone at the same time, use one or the other.

I'm sorry to hear about your little one, I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers and hope she will be okay.

Dyan, I did find one site  [linkhttp://www.srdogs.com/Pages/rimadylfr.html]http://www.srdogs.com/Pages/rimadylfr.html[/link] check under the "Don'ts".  My info was from my vet.  It's been a while and I had forgotten about the 5 day in between the Rimadyl and Pred.   I could use a little organization myself. [sm=lol.gif]

I forgot... in the second para select info about handouts and then go to "Don'ts".

Thank you Patt....this time I'm printing it out and putting it in a folder where I have important medical information for pets.

Poorboy, how is your dog today?

Last night (after 2 hours of taking the rimadyl) she seemed to do very well, definately a lot more playful, although definately not bouncing off the walls.  She was playin' a little tug-o-war and actually pulling back, which she wouldnt do a day or so ago.  She also made her own way down the steps to go to the potty, minus her fear of going down the step to actually get outside, had to help her there.  I didnt do much with her this morning, I leave for work early, but my wife said she seemed good, they went through the usual routine without fail.  I will be giving her, her second dose of the day at about 4 to 4:30 this afternoon when I get home.

I definately like this vet better than the other 3 I have seen.  Basically she wants Ruby to stay on her pills till the end of the week to see how she does.  If she continues to show signs of imrpovement we will keep her on the med, and hopefully as she fully developes everything will turn out ok and we can take her off.  If not then we are going to take her to see a neurologist and see what they say.

We are just so happy that it isnt a heart problem.

Thank you guys so much for your advice and help it was much appreciated. :-)

Well over the past 48 hours she has been as good as new in my book. Definately running around A LOT more, still not jumping much, but I'm starting to think that may just be her temperment. She has been outside and has been showing signs of full gallop possibilites We are going to be in touch with the vet tommrow afternoon to give her an update then see how we will approach the next couple of weeks. Most likely we will keep giving her the pills until she is almost completely developed...like 8 to 10 months I think, so the Vet says.

Thanks so much for your guys help and support, much <3 !

I want you to know how really happy that I am that your dog is feeling so much better. I know how happy and relieved that you are.

Did your vet tell you what was wrong?    I just really worry about the long term Rimadyl so very much.   I know you have to get them tested every few months at least if they are on it that long,,,    You know a lot of dogs are being helped with the drug, but a lot are getting sick and some dying.    I hope your vet told you all this, because he was supposed to give you information on it.

TBH, she did tell me some of the side effects, but nothing to the fact that dogs are dieing because of the drug.  I dont think there is a long term plan for her to be on it, and I do believe the doseage (sp?) we are giving her is pretty low.

There has not been a SOLID, answer as to what exactly the problem is/was, but she said if the Rimadyl worked that it most likley could be some type of growth problem, where some of her ligaments and or muscles werent developing with the growth of her bones.

I misunderstood, I thought you said he would be on it for 8 to 10 months.
This chart that I am posting is from the FDA, its from a couple of years ago,,,but if you read the very top line with the amount of reports to the FDA  there is a lot of deaths.    Carprofen (by the way) is the clinical name for Rimadyl.[align=center] This came from this website of Adverse Reactions. On the NSAIDS section.

I am not trying to put a "downer" on this conversation, I know this drug can help, but I also know that people must be really really aware of any dangers to it, and some vets hand it out like candy.
