Hi all, haven't posted in a while because we have been incredibly busy.  We've gotten a few emails about Hogan so figured I'd put up a little update.

Today is day 43 on Hogan's 127 day treatment (yes, 127 days now - his 2nd and 3rd treatments took place last week on Day 35/36, so that puts us on a 127 day treatment plan as opposed to the original 120 days) leaving us only 84 more days to keep the little man quiet.  His last treatments seemed less painful than the 1st.  He was really sore on his 1st treatment and this one he seems not as sore.  He's gotten very used to hanging out in the crate and is fattening up a bit.  LOL.

He is currently on prednisone because the doctor knew he had a hard time with coughing on the first treatment.

Anyway, he's getting used to the drill, knows he can't be active and doesn't really seem to be trying to run all that much. On Mother's Day, he jumped out of the car and ran (we nearly had a heartattack about that one) and he had some coughing after that, but the doc looked at him and kept him on cough suppressants.

In about another week we'll go back to giving him his Calms Forte.

Hope all is well with everyone out there, and glenmar, I haven't forgotten about the MS walk - I have about five phone calls I still have to make on other things - life is just nutty.

I have wondered and wondered, but was scared to ask.  I was so scared something had happened.  Am glad all is going will with the H-man.

I'm so glad everyone is doing well.
This has been a really informative thread for me.  I've heard of heartworm but didn't really know what the treatment of a heartworm positive dog involved.   I thank my lucky stars that we don't have it here.  Very scary.

LOL of course not!  :)  He is down to 1 prednisone a day, and so the coughing has started a bit.  He goes in on Friday for a check-up to listen to his breathing.  Today is Day 48.  If he still coughs, we'll call the doc tomorrow and ask for some cough suppressants or if he wants to just do the check-up early.

In other furry news, we had to have one of our cats, Obsidian, shaved because her fur was so matted!  So, she has fur on her legs, her head, and her tail, and short hair on her chest.  She looks like a Bobble-head Kitty.  But, she's much more comfortable. :)

This morning, while I was getting ready for work, I put the dogs in the office - Hogan in his crate, and Emma down on her bed.  I guess I missed that one of the cats were in there because about five minutes after I left, Mel heard barking, went into the office, and there was Emma barking at a little grey Mazzy cat who was locked in the room with the dogs!  Poor Mazzy.

    :)

Wow, you don't have mosquitos in Vancouver? (That's where it says you're at underneath your screen-name).  Lucky!!!

I've spoken to several people at work who haven't had their dog on HW preventative.  They have thought that they don't need to worry about it because 1) they have indoor dogs, 2) it's 'just more stuff to put in the animal's body' or 3) Michigan doesn't have many mosquitos (which, um, yes, it does -- over 5,000 dogs were diagnosed as HW positive dogs, NOT including the ones from the Hurricanes).  So, after hearing what Mel and I are going through with Hogan, and what he has to endure, they've called their vet right after the conversation to get HW preventative.  We've recommended Interceptor and to stay away from the shot.  So, you're very lucky and so are your dogs if there aren't mosquitos around.

    *off my newly acquired soapbox*

Sorry I haven't been around - life has been crazy crazy busy.  I just was driving back to work and remembered I hadn't been here in a while and decided to check up on things.  I have good news - we took Hogie to the vet about a month and a half ago, and as of about a month ago, he was weaned back into activity.  He is a little out of shape (Hell, I am, too!) but other than that, he is in good condition.  He can run and wrestle.  We don't overdo it because he's out of shape, but doc said to let him be a dog again. :)

He has is test in October because the doc said it has to go six months after treatment to be really valid.

So, our little man is back to his insane, troublemaking self :)

Thanks for all the support throughout the months...

[sm=clapping%20hands%20smiley.gif] That's great news.  I know that must've seemed like a very long time, but what a relief it must be to know it's over and Hogan's healthy and able to get back to his normal, playful routine.
