    Hogan Update

Today is day 3 in the 120 day long treatment. Hogan now wants to go into his crate, which is a good thing, but he's pretty tired and sore. Last night we went to pick him up and let him snuggle on the bed and he let out a loud yelp. He wasn't so sore on day 1, but yesterday he was. He's also been trembling. I called the vet and he said that sometimes dogs will have muscle reactions like that and not to worry but to just keep an eye on him. Of course I worry. It's scary to see your baby tremble and want to go into his crate. Anyway, I keep telling him he's doing great, that I'm so very proud of him, and that we're going to get through this together. I tell him to lay down in his crate because it'll help and thankfully he listens. Last night I woke up in the middle of the night as nature was calling and I made a stop near his bed on the floor and touched him to make sure he was doing okay. I never knew just how much of a nurturing instinct I have.

In any case, Hogan is in his crate right now, he already ate his supper, went outside and did his business. I'm going to go check on him, but so far, he's doing okay.

Thanks for your continued prayers and thoughts on my little man.

In case the other two dogs I know of that are also in treatment are reading this, how are they doing? Er, I mean their parents, in case their parents are reading. :)

I know how paranoid you can get.  The day Hunter was diagnosed with the AIHA, I was just checking teeth for dental and saw his pale gums..  I called at once to make an appointment and it was for like 2 hours later.  Shortly after that I was outside with them and KayCee "went" just off the patio, and Hunter had to"go" on her spot and I saw his pee was the color of rusty water. Noramlly I jut let them and he would go down to the fence and go on the fence and I never followed them around to see what color their pee was.

Anyway, ever since then I find myself checked gums all the time.  If any of them act the least bit strange or "off", I am checking gums, following them to look at their pee, etc--this after2 1/2 years!  If one sleeps longer during the day than I think normal, I am over checking on them.    Just a worry wart, but I can't help and neither can you.  I don't think you are really going to rest easy til the whole thing is over, he is declared heart-worm free.  Just come here and "talk you heart out", and people will talk back to you.

Yup, I've been watching his pee color and just making sure he's ok.  I'm a little better than I was on Friday and yesterday.  I just moved him up to the crate in the office so that he can hang out with me while I play my computer game.

He finally laid down after being antsy.  I think he overextended himself a little bit yesterday with all the chewing on kongs.  So, I'm just letting him lay down and relax.  Poor little guy, but he's a trooper and a survivor and my sweet little man.

Can ya tell that I love him? :)

Thanks for the support.  I'm sure I'll be talking a lot.

Here are two pictures of HoHo's taken about five minutes ago - he's laying on his bed in the office resting.

He wanted me to thank you all for your support and thoughts. :) He is, after all, a very sweet boy.

    Hey Samantha

Looks like he wants to rest! This is a good thing. I had a feeling as soon as that treatment started kicking in he would want to be alone in a crate or just being quiet...

I keep checking in and reading to see how he is doing... :)

Great pic's. Its nice to have a furface pic to see.....he is a very very lucky little guy to have you :)

hang in there we are all pulling for you ...

Yep, I'm an AUNT again!!!  LOL - every time I get to 'help' a dog I get to be an 'aunt'!!  (I promote myself you see! LOL).

Hogan you are one nice lookin fella!!  Samantha it's too funny, for those of us without human kids-- we NEVER know what a nurturing instinct we have until they bring it out in us! And man, when it comes rolling out it reaches glacial proportions in a heartbeat!!

And Sandra is right -- when you've had one get so so SO sick so suddenly, you become totally anal about "checking" things -- and the more experience you get the worse you GET about it.  (as Callie checks and yep, Kee Shu is air-licking so SHE gets Rescue Remedy, so then Luna comes "PAY ATTENTION TO ME Mom!!! Can't *I* have something??")

Hogan there are better days coming!!  but heck -- you are just one lucky fella -- you live thru a himmicane and wind up with a family like Samantha and Melissa and a long distance aunt like me!!!  Howzat for VERY cool??

Maybe your Mom should make you a paper chain or something with enough links to "all better" day!!!  And the best part is you get to have all Samantha's attention til then too!!

Now Billy says there just ain't NUFFIN better than getting all cuddle-wrapped in a towel or blanket.  I mean it's even worth being a little TOO warm sometimes because it means they LOVE ya.  (says Billy who is laying here wrapped up IN a towel after a bath!!).

Right now I'd be willing to betcha Hogan feels like he's got a war going on inside -- no wonder he doesn't feel very good.

He is such a pretty boy!  And as soon as he feels well enough, THIS auntie is gonna have to visit him!  Haha Callie!! I'm close enough to DO it!!  There are a few advantages to living in the frozen tundra!! [;)]

Oh, and I *might* just talk Samantha and Melissa into joining us for the MS Walk!!  How cool would that be?

*lower lip sticking out* LIFE just ain't fair sometimes!!!

    Kim,

Yup!  He wants to rest - that's for sure.  Melissa and I keep taking turns for doggie watching duty.  She's watching sports and movies, and I'm gaming.  So, he takes turn crate up here, lap downstairs, or crate downstairs... He's passed out in his crate (surprise surprise) and he scared us because he was dreaming and yelped and growled.  At least he's not bored in his sleep. :)

Hogan sends his thank yous to Aunt Callie.  And so do we - thanks for all the insight and listening!

That's a good idea - a paper better day chain.

    We'll have to do that!

He's our little man and we love him.  He's the token male in the house and what a token he is.

    :)

If he doesn't feel like there's a war going on inside, he sure looks it.  But we keep telling him how proud we are of him and how good he's doing and how we're all gonna get through it together.
    • Gold Top Dog
Absolutely!  We're still thinking about the MS walk, but it sounds like a lot of fun.

Hogie says thanks for the compliments. :)

Yes, he is a handsome boy.  He reminds me of my youngest's son's wife's dog Hank--well, he became their dog after they got married, but she had adopted him when they were in college.  Hank died of heart attack last year.

But I gotta tell you this theory of mine.  Our hearts are like swiss cheese, full of holes.  A dog climbs into one of those holes and is totally in our heart and we love them to no end.  Then they are taken from us and we feel we can never love another dog like that again.  But something strange happens.  Another dog climbs into one of those other holes and HE/SHE is in our heart.  Meanwhile, the hole the first dog is in has closed up and that dog will remain forever in our heart.    So even tho we are sure we can never love again like that, by gum we have so many holes for dogs to climb into that one always finds a hole and gets in there and we love him/her as much as the first, the second, however many others are forever sealed in our heart.

People who do not love dogs the way we do could never understand the deep and forever love we have for our beloved dogs.  I feel sorry for them that they have never known the love a dog, and probably never will.  So sad.

I am glad Hogan is doing so well... and he is sooo cute [:)]

Its day 7 for Coal and he is doing ok.  I just called the vet and asked about the panting and he said give it a few days and if it continues to call and I may have to bring him in.   Poor baby is also going to have to have his hook worm meds again. .

I have to keep telling him to lay down but he pretty much stays in the living room with a baby gate in the door to the back of the house.  or stays in my bed room with the same gate in the door.  Doesnt like his crate much but he hasnt been in one for 7 yrs and I think he may get used to it again.  he goes right in when i tell him to and just sits there like ok let me out... hes got a bed in there but he seems to like to lay on the plastic tray more.  guess its cooler.

Casey my other dog loves being in the house.... he would lay on the couch with me if i let him and as soon as i lay in the bed and cover up hes up there with me....

hope hogan is having a great day.... I dont know about you but i dont have much of a life right now...lol... I worry about him all day and rush home from work no stopping anywhere on the way.... if i need to shop I go on my  lunch hour...

will have to try some different stuff in Coal's kong and see if he likes it... Casey loves his empty...he just carries it around everywhere.... although he really liked it with the cheese in....
