Tanker has a heart problem

Luvarescue - Am sending Tanker good thoughts for a long life!   It is amazing how meds can work nowadays.  Callie is very reassuring about the enlarged heart thing..  I don't know much about murmers but I don't think a "3" is very bad?

Sandra - the news actually sounds better than I would've thought.  Mitral valve prolapse is fairly common in humans and other than treating prophylactically with antibiotics prior to medical/dental treatments, I've never heard of it being a big issue.  Hopefully this will be the case with Tanker and he a long, healthy life.

Well, I'm a little ticked.  Tanker's sonogram was Wednesday at 4:00 PM and I STILL haven't heard from my vet.  I figure she must have talked to the vet that did the sonogram sometime on Thursday so she would be calling me then.  When I didn't hear from her by the end of the day I thought, well, it can get very hectic there, maybe they had a lot of emergencies- I'm sure she'll call me tomorrow.  Well, she didn't call all day Friday.  I'll be calling her as soon as they open up today.  Geez, I've practically signed my paychecks over to that clinic this past month or so, with getting the new dog, getting all three their yearly exams and shots (for some reason I adopted them all in the spring-not good planning on my part!), having them get Giardia and now Tank's heart problem.  I would think I could expect a phone call in a timely manner with all the money I have paid them lately!  I'm worried about my boy...!

OK, I called my vet this morning.  She has been playing telephone tag with the vet that did the sonogram and hasn't been able to touch base with her yet.  I completely understand that- telephone tag happens, but would it have killed my vet to have taken two minutes out of her day to call me and tell me that?  She did apologize, but I still think it was very inconsiderate of her...

Yep, I understand exactly how you're feeling.  I went thru this recently with the skin biopsy we had done on Sassy.  Waited a week for results, then I come home to a msg saying "we have the results - give us a call" but they left the msg at 5:20, I got home at 6 and that's what time they closed.  Then called the next day only to be told the derm vets don't work Wed., and the other vets couldn't tell me the results.  Man, I was soooo mad (and like you, worried).  I hope you get some answers soon.  The waiting can be unbearable.

Finally talked to the vet, and its pretty good news (well, as good as it can be about a heart condition).  Tanker does have a ruptured cord, which has caused his murmur, but he does not have any heart enlargement.  Yea!!!  My vet didn't think his heart was enlarged, the radiologist thought it was, but the vet that did the sono thought his heart size was fine and my vet says the sono is most accurate, as they take actual measurements.  So, we will rerun the tests in six months and use the tests just run as a baseline to watch for any changes.  I better start saving money now!!  I'm so relieved-  things could have been so much worse!

Thanks for all the support.  I-dog is great!

Yeah Sandra, that is wonderful news.  I can imagine how much relief you felt.  It's always when we get some good news like this.  Fantastic!
