Adequan is a pharmaceutical version of glucosamine-- it's a 'hydrator' (it plumps up the tissue so it does a better job of protecting the joint).  It's actually a really good, safe drug.

Deramaxx is an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) like aspirin or Rimadyl.  Be REALLY careful.  That stuff is really hard on the liver.  and honestly I mean **really** hard on it.  There are other NSAIDs that are less hurtful to the body, but if he needs that serious of a pain-reliever, then honestly you may need to do the surgery.

You may also want to do a search on here for Science Diet -- I'm not one of the food gurus (I home cook for mine, so kibble isn't my thing).

In seriousness -- you may want to look into acupuncture to go along with the treatment for that lameness -- it helps with pain a great deal and it also helps healing -- so having that in place while you are going thru surgery will help with that as well.

If you go to the Chi Institute website at [linkhttp://www.chi-institute.com]http://www.chi-institute.com[/link] -- there is a locator on there that will help you find someone certified close to you that may help.  I'm not suggesting you leave your regular vet -- this would be in addition to, to help with these problems.
