my dobie has had some skin problems, rashes, bumps, pimples etc.  the first thing he did was a thyroid panel (simple blood test) to rule out any deficiencies.  it was neg.  he put her on a fish oil, omega 3 supplement, 4 squirts a day.  this has helped a great deal, her coat is nice and shiny. i take her collar off when she's in the house and clean it each time.  she'd get a terrible rash from it and its amazing how dirty it gets!  good luck and hope this helps a little

Great idea. Try adding fish oils, like Salmon Oil or Sardine Oil to his diet.  The fish oils will help balance your dogs Fatty Acids.  Actually, my grandma takes Salmon Oil because due to a thyroid condition (she's 92).  If she doesn't take is her skin becomes like dried leather.

Also, does the bed she uses contain cedar.  Alot of animals are allergic to cedar.  Even people.

The antibiotic b/c he saw the beginning signs of a skin infection from all of the scratching and wanted to nip it in the bud NOW, before it got bad.

Kelco Filthy Animal Shampoo (dilutes 32:1) will help with skin infection problems:
