Foster Smith---New Allergy Products

The two reasons I won't buy it are the "junk" ingredients (whey and flavoring), and the price. You can get QBCs so much cheaper, made for humans. I pay $19 for a bottle of 60, and mine are a much higher dose, than those are.

Bromelain is an anti inflamatory, and a digestive enzyme. Take it with food, and it helps you digest your food. Away from food, it's a fabulous anti inflamatory.

Quercetin is a bioflavonoid. It is very helpful for allergies.

Jennie's right about quercitin and bromelain. I tried it a few years ago along with a lot of other things before Jessie started immunotherapy but it didn't seem to help, but at that time nothing seemed to help. I started giving it to Jessie again about a month ago; it takes awhile to build up in the system and help but I'm trying to use it in place of antihistamines. I'm going to stop giving her antihistamines soon and see if the quercitin and bromelain keep her comfortable. Since she's been on immunotherapy she responds much better to antihistamines than she used to so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

They make a BIG difference, for me. I take my Mega Quercetin, every day, to keep my histamine level at a low level of insanity. My allergies have gotten worse, the last couple of years, and I really need daily control, now (ironically, Emma does NOT, any more). I can't take any chemical antihistamine, and function. The quercetin is perfect, for me.

I really hope that it helps Jessie out, too!

Well, actually Willow is taking the same Derm Caps from Petsmart right now.  I've tried them in the past and always go back to them over anything else just because of the dosing.

So, I should keep her on the Derm Caps and look for quercitin and bromelain capsules.

Is the Mega Quercetin the one I should be looking for or do you recommend another kind??

A brand name/product name would be great so I know what to look for.  I'm lost in a health food store.

Thanks!!!  I'm going to pass on the FosterSmith Allergy kit--you guys talked me out of it.

Depends on the dose she needs. The Mega Quercetin has 600 mg of quercetin, 50 of bromelain, and 125 of C, per capsule. The QBC Plex has less. The ones I use are Solaray. I prefer Solaray's products to NOW's (which is what Jessie is taking) because I feel like they are better quality. I've seen better results from them, and NOW makes nearly everything. Solaray sticks to quality herbs and vitamins.

I don't know what my dose would be she's 47 lbs.

I have another thread about hot spots from itching but no one mentioned these supplements.  I'd like to find out what I should try for my 15lb Bichon-Poodle mix who scratches all the time and is now creating hot spots.  Is there something at petsmart with the Q & B in it that I can get there or is there a link to one I can order online to try for Andy?

Buy human QBCs at the health food store. I would not give anything for allergies, from Petsmart.

Each tablet of Drs Foster and Smith's Allergy Tabs contains 150 mg of Quercetin, 180 mg of Vit C, and 30 mg of bromelain. They also contain grape seed extract, which scares the heebiejeebies outta ME! I like my dogs' kidneys, how bout you? Anyhow, if you trust their dosing, they say to give a single tab to dogs up to 10 pounds, two tabs for 10-20 pounds, three for 20-30 pounds, and four for over 30 pounds. It says if you give more than one, split the dose between morning and evening.

Solaray QBC Plex has 625 mg of Vit C, 250 of Quercetin, and 25 of bromelain, per capsule.  I'd think that one for a little dog, or two for a big dog, would be just fine. The only problem I can forsee is bowel tolerance of vitamin c. If your dog isn't used to taking it, you may have issues. My dogs are very used to getting extra C, so they do fine.

I tried to find a liquid glucosamine for JJ that has bromelian in it because I heard it was really good for arthritis. Can you get just plain bromelian to supplement??

I just ordered TWO salmon oil yesterday so I guess we are gonna try this too.  He is doing great with his arthritis on liquid health brand glucosamine...but I know as time goes on it will get worse and I wodul like to prolong the meds as long as possible.

I didn't know that; thanks Jennie; next time I'll but that product that Solaray makes.

Jennie may have a different opinion, but the book I read by Dr.Jane Bicks said that quercitin can upset the stomach so you should start with about a fourth of the intended dose and gradually increase the amount until you reach the full dose.

    Jennie,

Thanks.  That is just what I needed.  Will look for it as soon as I can and give it a try.  We will also try a bendryl regimen.

Sure can:) It's usually in with the digestive enzymes, because it does that, too. I think the K9LiuidHealth brand uses bromelain. I'm about to buy some (and their human version, because I don't actually NEED money!), because we're having a hard time finding a pill that works well for us.

I was thinking you might need to work up gradually, because of the vitamin c, mostly.... I haven't heard of quercetin upsetting tummies (and I've taken ridiculous amounts of it, myself. As many as four at a time, every 15 minutes til a reaction calms down.... That did cause a little ....erm.... vitamin c problem. MY QBCs are the Mega version, and about twice as strong), but it's definitely a possibility. I tend to start out slow with everything, though, just to be sure it isn't going to cause a problem.

Oh, no--now I'm scared to try it.  Don't forget Willow has IBS and any diarrhea would be worse for her.

I don't know what to do???  AUGHHHHHH!!
