sorry just noticed the last few posts - Scritches delivered! - he says oooooooooooo thanks!

Johnny I have a feeling you are right re no thyroid tissue left before that number drops, I am relying on Dr Dodds to let me know what to do and she really doesn't seem to have any ideas other than trying to not use beef.  i seriously struggle to believe that is the issue as he does so well on it.  I was really hoping she would give me a more complete picture of what may be happening.

I don't know anything about conversion issues - this is the first time his T3 numbers were below normal, they have been low but not below normal.  I suppose its possible

I don't really know the ramifications of all this, that's what bothers me.  I know he can remain on thyroid meds safely forever but there must be additional things affected.

Lori - he 'seems' fine. I just changed from Soloxine to the generic which is what he has been on until the last order where I thought I would see if the Soloxine brand would do better. We just started that this week and he does seem higher energy - now whether that is a good thing or not is dependent on whether you ask him or me LOL

I'm going to keep my eye on whether he has more ups and downs on this energy-wise and also keep track of itchies, dandruff, and if he licks himself more.

There are much more serious things to deal with, many of you have dealt with them or are dealing with them.  You all know how much I love this nut, I would just like to know he is healthy

Don't quote me on this and perhaps I'm wrong but I could have sworn I read something long ago about feeding raw meat and the effects this can have on the thyroid.  I can't for the likes of me remember where I read this and maybe I dreamt it???

Might be worthwhile to ask Dr. Dodds about this next time you speak to her.

Good luck Bugsy...hugs just for you.

"However, supplementing with kelp, and feeding a raw diet, may reduce the amount of thyroid supplementation needed.  If you do make such a change to your dog's diet, be sure to monitor his thyroid to see if the dosage needs to be adjusted.  Also, be aware that too much iodine (from over-supplementing kelp) can actually lead to hypothyroidism."
