Luna & the rest of the Clan (Callie)

    phew ... whatta day!

Luna apparently does have the gastroenteritis.  Now in the long list of "possibles" I'll TAKE this one.  Hopefully she just got into something that mega irritated everything.

However, in addition gut bacteria has decided this is a WONDERFUL place to flourish (OH -- you are already inflamed and your tummy is sore?? Bacteria can GROW here!!)

So ... mine have ALL got gut bacteria.  Billy's is the worst, Tink's already been on something FOR bacteria.  *sigh*  So it's gonna be a pooppy weekend here.

Poor Luna really does NOT feel well at all.  Her tummy just doesn't feel good at all.  The vet warned me it would be a couple of days before she feels better -- I gotta get ground beef and maybe cream of rice to make for her tonight.  Poor baby.

Poor poopy puppers! I hope they all feel better soon. *passes extra roll of paper towels*

Stomach stuff stinks. Sad It's taken me a month to feel better. I hope your gang is back to having healthy stomachs soon, I know what a relief that will be.
    • Gold Top Dog

I hope her tummy settles soon and the poopy messes are over soon, soon, soon.

    • Gold Top Dog

I guess the good of this is that they all seem to have the bug.....thats better than one dog having something really bad.  Luna maybe got hit a little harder.  Hope things get better around there..... Good luck Callie and the Gang!

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh no!  Stomach stuff sucks.  I hope that their stomachs straighten out quickly!

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh, no, when did this all start?  I hope they are feeling better very soon!

Edited to say--OK, I just caught up on the other thread!  What an ordeal!   If you see this tonight Callie, how are they all now??

Luna got up feeling very UN-well (Meg posted for me in Spiritual Circle - she got the "I'm on my way to NSB!!" call this morning LOL)

Luna is *much* more ill than the others.  Tink 'n Billy only have "gut bacteria" -- both are a bit immune-suppressed and it's like their guts just took the opportunity to "join in".

Luna's got gastro-enteritis.  And I think the bacteria is very very "secondary" for her -- I think she's likely felt unwell for a few days but she's SO stoic we didn't catch it.  But once *she* was really inflamed then that chance bacteria saw it's opportunity to really FLOURISH in her and it tipped what was already a dog not feeling well, and made a really *sick* one out of it.

She's literally so sore gut-wise that she can't even walk well -- she hurt so bad this morning the steps were nearly too much for her.  I figured "stomach ache" but didn't want to risk waiting the entire weekend so was on my way TO the vet and discovered as we went down the steps just HOW much pain she was really in.

In the 6+ years we've had her this is the FIRST time I've ever had to take *her* to the vet (for anyting other than titers, well dog stuff, and "visits to Dr. Bailey";).  This is a first for her.

And she's actually pretty wigged out about it.  Similar to that person who is REALLY healthy who has others in their family who get sick easily but they NEVER do.  And when they get laid low that ONE time????

She's actually quite scared.  It was the first time SHE ever got left AT the vets **SHUDDER**

     <<<>>>

And she feels just bad enough that she's just plain quiet about it (and Ms. Tunes is NEVER quiet).  It was one of my first tips this morning that she was really very unwell (more than David knew when she didn't want to eat).  She came in to "The Family Reading Room" this morning and actually GROANED when she tried to lie down at my feet.

Poor gal ... But she is trying to be SUCH a good patient.  I'm pretty darned proud of her.

I had to laugh -- she never has to take "medicine" ... but I'm always talking about how I've taught mine to "chew GOOD" and "just swallow"  -- the latter command being so they don't bite into evil tasting medicines when I have to give them meds.

She doesn't want to eat ANYTHING yet.  But I gave her some Chinese herbs called "Curing Pills" (which are pretty miraculous in how they settle a stomach short term) and I showed them to her and told her "gotta just swallow" and she let me put that spoon all the way to the back of her throat like a champ.

Then I shoved the Metranydazole into a small piece of meat and again showed it to her.  She *wanted* to want it but ... really ... didn't.

So I said to her "This has a YUCKY pill in it -- JUST swallow ok?"

She DID.  I was SO proud of her.

Oh, what a good girl she's being even feeling this bad. I hope those meds work quickly for her and she's much better by morning.  Keep me posted.

Me too!!!  What a good girl you are Luna!  I just wanna come and give you a BIG hug to make you feel better!

I'm glad Tink and Billy don't have it bad.  That wouldn't be good to have ALL of them as sick as Luna!

Any news on how she's doing today?  My thoughts, prayers and get well vibes are going out to ALL them today.  Looking forward to an update.

Poor Luna!  I hope they all feel better soon.  Sounds like some slippery elm might help if you can get it down her.

She's improving.  She slept a lot last night -- and I think she was endeavoring to drink water every time her tummy felt iffy (which is a darned smart thing to do -- to reduce the stomach acid)

This morning, she was right there when I prepared breakfast for the other two -- she left and came back.  Not jumping up and down .. but ... willing to *try*.  I made her some ground beef and Cream of Rice last night (David came home with "extra" last night, when I'd already asked for what *I* thot was "extra" -- so we officially now have enough Cream of Rice instant cereal to last us well into the next millenium!!).

I further watered it down with some more chamomile tea ... and she ate a good 1/4 c. of that this morning.  She wanted to stop and I let her.  Then this afternoon, whilst I was preparing the slippery elm cocktail she was REALLY interested in some yogurt and I let her have some -- and she wound up eating another 1/4 cup of her burger & rice.

She's still very ginger about getting "up" -- the belly is still obvilously VERY Tender.  But no vomiting, and no more diarreha.

I just gave all 3 the slippery elm cocktail (which has a darned good probiotic in it) so in another 20 minutes we shall try some supper.  She was really happy with the slippery elm cocktail so it musta felt good in the belly.

T'will take some time for her gut to heal.  But the slippy elm cocktail will really help with that.  The aloe is super for stuff like that -- that mixture truly rocks.

Ohh! Creamy rice cereal is a great idea, Callie! Thanks!!!

What a GOOOD GIRL Luna is for taking her medicine so well! I hope everybody is feeling better, soon.

Poor Luna; when I read your first post, I thought it might be pancreatitis because she was in so much pain. I'm glad she's doing better. I hope all of them are better very soon.

    • Gold Top Dog

Janice I was **CONVINCED** it was pancreatitis!!  That was the *first* thing I said at the vet was "Whatever blood panel you do make **sure** it gives us amylase and lipase cos I'm betting this is pancreatitis cos she's SO sore!"

But nope -- she was so dehydrated that it kinda skewed the initial bloodwork (her platelets almost looked low which again threw ME into a panic) but this vet said "No - that's why we're doing a Super Chem and they'll send the results "stat" -- but I'm betting that the dehydration caused the platelets to 'clump' so we're not getting a good enough reading on THIS machine" -- and that's exactly what it was -- when the super chem came back the platelets were well within normal.  phew.

Sometimes I know just enough to completely throw myself into hysteria.  *sigh*
