Oiling Clippers

It takes me a good 45 minutes to shave a dog so having to stop every half hour or so to let them cool down is a pain in the you know what!  I've got a fairly decent pair of clippers...at least I hope so for what was paid for them (Andis AGC Super 2 Speed). 

A good pair of clippers shouldn't heat up that quickly. I can do all three of my guys, about a total of 1.5 hours, without it even remotely getting hot. I have never had to use cooling spray on them.

My clippers heat up also they are professional clippers I oil them every time I use them but these are high speed clippers I use cooling spray for clippers you can buy this spray at any professional grooming supply store like Groomers Choice, Ryans, or Pet Edge Dog.com may even sell it. Email me if you have any problems finding it. A good set of clippers will heat up pretty fast while grooming your Pooch and it will hurt when the poor baby gets burned by the clippers so make sure and buy some cooling spray cost is about 5 - 10 dollars a can comes in a aerosol can. I hope this helps a professional groomer told me about this.

 You need to oil the blades. Friction is why you have heat:)

Do you think oiling every 5-10 minutes would be enough or too much.  I'll try using the slower speed a little more also.

ETA...what kind of clippers do you all use?

As I said I oil my blades every time I use My clippers. Yes friction does cause heat but you do not want oily blades cutting your dogs hair this is why they sell cooling spray. You just cannot leave your clippers in a oil bath.

 Also, you probably need to replace the blade drive every few months. That's the biggest thing when my clippers heat up too fast.

I was thinking about replacing the blade drive but wasn't too sure.  An extra one came with the clippers.  I'll inspect it like it said in the video above (one of the ones Anne provided).

I DO also wash each dog and dry them before they get clipped!  Getting am extra blade also sounds like a great idea.
