Glocosamine dosage? UPDATE

Just to chime in that Bugsy has been on fish oil/vitamine E and a human glucosamine/chondroitin supplement since he is about a year old and we started the knox nutrijoint (without the added glucosamine) when he was 2.5-3 yrs old.

All of that was started because he is very large (105lbs) and super active

Last year when diagnosed with a ACL tear and needing surgery I started giving him MSM

It is - I am told - highly unusual for a dog with a TPLO and who had a long standing tear to NOT have arthritis in the affected knee - he does not.  I presume it is to do with the supplements and his age (he is now approaching 5)

It is very unfortunate but he does have a condition started in his spine (spondylosis) that is a form of arthritis but I am told nothing but pain management for that.  i am unsure at this time whether it is causing pain or not.

I use Traumeel for anytime I think he is hurting

I have heard people RAVE about Cosamin DS and Dasuquin but I have not used those yet

Yeah, it is amazing that no arthritis in the knee ...

Regarding the spondylosis - just about to write a blog post on that on my blog with a case study. A rescue dog diagnosed with spondylosis. She is responding really well to acupuncture. In fact dramatic improvement seen after the first treatment already!

MSM and glucosamine supplements never hurt. Dasuquin is supposed to be very good, but couldn't try ourselves because of the soy ingredient. Sasha's is also very popular here and elk velvet antler should also be really good.

Thanks for the info babelfish!  I will look into acupuncture should I see any clear indication that the spondylosis is bothering him.
