     Mod's feel free to move this to the kitty section if it can't stay here..

    I know this is a dog forum but I need some help...

    My friend's cat was attacked by something. We don't know what. She has taken him to a vet numerous times and they're only advice right now is either steroids or PTS. I'm advising that she get a second opinion since the vet she's seeing now isn't doing crap...

    I got a list of things that she's been doing so far and what's happening to the cat:
    Vit E - to prevent itching. The wounds are drying up and causing rubbing and scratching.
    There may be a disease that runs in the family that would be treated with steroids.
    There are open sores, itching, he's pulling the hair out of his feet and the sore won't heal.
    He's vomiting and dehydrated. BUT he is eating fine. I'm giving her a syringe to get water in to his system.
    He's got a deformation on his lips, almost like they've melted away.
    He's constantly scratching and grooming himself.
    He can't wear a cone due to a wound on his neck.

    Again, she has seen a vet and I am recommending she get a second opinion. I'm giving her a syringe to get some water into him. She also gave him an antihistamine. Nothing has helped.

    Suggestions, advice, good vibes maybe? Please! I'm gonna be writing her an email tonight when I get some ideas from a cat forum I'm on but I thought since I got some great advice here with my dogs, I'd give it a shot.  I'm really worried about Jade...

    Honestly, to me, those wounds look more like self inflicted woulnds as opposed to attack wounds. 

    The term used to decribe that particular condition is called miliary dermatitis.  It can be allergy related, but there are other conditions that will cause it as well.  It is obviously infected, so the cat needs to be on antibiotics.  I would also have the ears checked to make sure that they aren't infected.  A food trial can be beneficial to cats with this condition, & sometimes steroids have to be used in order to get the itching under control.

    Another vet visit is really needed to try to get the cat more comfortable.

     Thanks Amanda.  The local cat rescue has agreed to help foot the vet bill so Jade is going in for a full blood panel and biopsy as well an IV to get fluids into him.

    I'm passing on the info I've found to her tonight to give to the vet so hopefully it'll help.

    they need to get those wounds shaved down - asap. I would also have kitty tested for FIV/FELUK.

    Are those ulcers in the kitties mouth? It's hard to tell with those pictures.

    Yeah.. the pictures aren't the greatest.. I had Alex take them since I couldn't make it up there today.  By the looks of it, it looks like indolent ulcer on his lips.

    I'm just glad he's getting help finally. Vet's around here look down at you when you ask if you do a payment plan.

    Aw, poor kitty. Something is screaming internal bacterial infection to me...I could be way off. Ulcers are probably from licking the bacteria from the wounds.

    Glad he's getting the help he needs! That can't be comfy...

     I haven't seen Jade in person so I can't pass any first hand info about the wounds. I'm hoping to make it up to my friend's place sometime this week to check on the cat thou.  Alex did a wonderful job, getting our friend's mind off the situation while I hunted for info.

    Awww...poor little boy.  Hope all the best for him and a speedy recovery.
