    Tallulahs Skin Condition

This is Rolynn, formerly under the user name of Tallulah.  Anyhow, I had posted regarding Tallulah's skin condition of extremly flaking skin, like terrible dandruff and the sores that were all over her body.  The hair loss was also tremendous!  I got to the point where nothing was getting accomplished by going through the vet.  This is not in anyway intended as disrespect towards vet's or my own personal vet but let me tell you what I finally did!  I called a "GROOMER" in this area that is very well liked by so many and is extremly smart when it comes to dogs.  She suggested that I put Tuz' on Acidopholis and Salmon Oil capsules.  I did this in conjuction of changing her food to ProPlan Selects.  The Salmon and Brown Rice one.  Oh my gosh!  What a difference in my Tuz'!  Within two months her sores were completely GONE and her skin is no longer flaking at ALL.  Mind you, HER HAIR HAS COMPLETELY GROWN BACK!  She also enjoys the new food diet I give her.  I also bathe her once every two weeks in an Oatmeal Shampoo.  Now get this one, IT IS NOT THE EXPENSIVE VARIETY.  It is Sargents brand.  Only $4.75 a bottle!  She actually looks forward to her baths now. Not joking here.  I merely ask her, and I think she does understand me, if she is ready for her "BAFE"?  (Yes, I said "Bafe".)  She walks into the bathroom and steps right into the tub herself!  I should also mention that I too took her off the Heartworm med.  The square one that they chew.  We give her absolutely no beef around this house.  I am praying that this is what was needed for her to remain healthly as far as healthy can be.  Sure, Spring may reveal different situations but at this time she is content and happy.

Heartworm preventative is available in different forms. You probably shouldn't just take her off without talking to your vet. Heartworm infestation is quite scary and dangerous.

I'm glad her skin is doing better, though. That's awesome! Often, a total food switch can make such a difference.

I realize that having been a vet tech in the past however it was the end of September when that ceased to be given.  Come this Spring I will try something else.  I also followed Callies suggestion I should mention of having her spayed thus not allowing her cycles to over burden her immune system.  I will also follow her, Callie, advise and not have all the injections for prevention given at once in one visit.  Tuz' receives everything including Bordetella and the Lymes vac since she is a Lab and is taken into fields (occasionally).  We are very cautious of this since she does have allergies.  The testing showed nothing environmental but one can never be sure.

Good! I'm glad you knew that. I didn't know where you were, but around here, we give it year round.

Just give her a little bath, after she's gone out for a romp in the feilds. If it's too soon to bathe her, you can give her a good rinse with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a gallon of water, then rinse it off good. That'll get the pollons and grasses off of her skin.

That's great, the spaying and the seperating vaccines. That'll be much less work for her little body to handle. It's great to hear that she's so improved!
