Groomers....feet question?

    Groomers....feet question?

I'm on the hunt for a battery powered clipper that will be used only for trimming between paw pads.  1) I am guessing I can find a battery powered one, and 2) what kind of blade should I be checking that it has?  Any advice on brands to look for or stay away from?

    Thanks!

     Only Ben's paw pads?

I use a Peanut in the shop (by Wahl). It plugs in, but it has more power than similarly priced cordless versions. It's fine for thinner haired feet, but won't go through Cocker feet, or matted feet. My next clipper will be a Laube Speed Feed. It's more expensive, cordless, and has an adjustable blade. My Peanut's blade is a #30 (very short) and perfect for feet and certain (Chinese Crested!) faces. The Speed Feed's blade adjusts from a #9 to a #40. That's a fairly wide range of summer-cut-short to surgical-short.

Ben's, yes, and it would be nice if I didn't have to replace it when I get the Maremma.  I'll have a look around, thanks!

Do a search for the Wahl Pocket Pro trimmer in your area.  It would be perfect for your needs, but I'm not sure how available they are across the pond.  Here in the US you can get them for around $12.

I use the Tid-Bit (Wahl) trimmer. It's plug in and honestly I seriously doubt anything battery powered would go thru her foot hair on all four feet on one charge. It is VERY impressive!

I've checked and I can get Wahl products very easily here, so I think that's probably the brand I'll go with.  As for corded/cordless, I hadn't thought about the "doing all feet on one charge" thingy and yeah that is a concern lol.  So I may go with a corded one, we'll see.

Also, DH told me today that he'll get me a grooming table for xmas...whee!

Make sure you get the right size! Here we found it cheaper to use one of those folding craft tables. It's the right height...not so tall Cleo cannot help me get her up...and it's very loooooonng so she can lay down while I do stuff. We just bought a clamp and arm to go onto it and it clamps on great. MUCH cheaper than an actual,  "grooming table"!

My Peanut and Gina's Tidbit are the same thing, pretty much. I've used both, and they have the same feel. I think one is marketed for pets and the other for people? It's a good, little clipper.

That Speed Feed that I mentioned is supposed to be able to clip a whole dog. I'll definitely post about it, when I get one.

That's a good tip, thanks Gina.  I'm looking around at my options and just getting the basic components to make my own is definitely an option too.  I'd want to cover the top with some kind of non-slip mat or something, but if I could find a big piece then cutting it down to size would be easy enough.

They sell that stuff for the bottom of horse stalls,  that's cushion-y...seems like it could be cut to fit any size.

I use a yoga mat on the top of the table for a little cushion. Since I have smaller dogs I can fold it in half. You could do two layers. It's light and easy to handle and wash.
