    Finding a vet

Hi everyone! I just moved from Florida to the Philidelphia area and I need a good vet. Anyone have any sugestions? Preferably somewhere that wont cost me an arm and a leg because moving isnt cheap!

I just went through the same thing when moving to Michigan.  The best advice I can give is check out some local places and ask about pricing.  Here is my checklist:

    1.  How clean is the facility

    2.  What is the their policies/beliefs on vaccinations

    3.  What do they charge - I know this is a hot topic but it is reality.  You will be more willing to get medical help/attention if it is more affordable

    4.  Do they support alternative medical treatments.  I know alot of people use acupuncture, herbalist, etc.  Depending on your feelings on these subjects - see what the vet things

    5.  When you visit the facility how many dogs/pets are waiting and for how long.  The last thing you want to do is wait for an hour past your appointment time with a bunch of sick animals just to get a rabies shot.  Talk to owners waiting and ask their opinion - what they like/dislike.

    6.  Do they offer payment plans for major issues/chemo/surgery, etc.

    7.  See how everyone interacts with the animals.  I personally want a vet that loves on my Charlie - not someone that treats him like a payment on his/her new Cadillac.  But you have to weigh loving with a good vet.  I am willing to put up with someone if they are amazing in their treatment policies.

    Hope this helps.
