Thank goodness you found her, someone who cares.   Having gone thru cancer w/Shadow I would have been devistated if I had lost him like that and not had the chance to care for him till it was time.   That was a very difficult time with Shadow but it would have been so much worse if I didnt know his last days were filled with love.   I am so happy that you found her family.  You are an angel! Prayers for Bebe and her family.

She is so thin because she has been fighting cancer for 3 years.

Poor Bebe!  It is great that she has a caring owner and and angel (you) watching over her.

How did you manage to find her owner?

Aw, I'm really glad she's back with her family.

How did you find the owners?

Oh, poor thing!  I really feel terrible for the owners, it must be very close to time to let her go.  I'm so thankful I did not have to watch that happen to Ben.  I had another dog, Bubo, who died of chronic renal failure and it was so, so hard at the end.

I was thinking how odd it was that she was so glossy looking in spite of her condition.  Normally a malnourished dog at that level has a dull coat too.

For those lurking - dogs that bad off need fluids first.  Hydration is primary importance.  Kidneys are in danger from the stress of breaking down muscle tissue - fluids help that immensely.  Don't try to force feed either fluids or solids.  It's dangerous because you don't know why the dog is refusing to eat.  In many cases dogs refuse to eat when it's best that their systems rest.  Thus, it's necessary to have the doctor do IV or subQ fluids.

Next the dog needs glucose.  Sugar, plain and simple.  Honey is wonderful for dogs that can't or won't eat.  Just give about 5 mls every couple hours.  Vitamins to help restart the digestive system.  Then complex carbs to gently get the gi going without stimulating/stressing the liver and kidneys.
