To Vet or Not to Vet...That is the Question.

Sigh It's always something. Teddi is not feeling well.

Tuesday I was working from home she seemed normal slept most of the day which is I am sure what they do when I am not working from home. Later in the afternoon, just as we were getting ready to walk dogs, Teddi got sick. Not a big up chuck, but none the less, it was white, frothy but appeared to be saliva and stomach bile. She had not eaten since breakfast and I did not see any food in it. Then she seemed fine so we went for our walk and she behaved like Teddi.

Yesterday I went to ride my horse on my way home talking to DH he said Teddi has diarrhea pretty badly. No accidents in the house, but she is not feeling well. By the time I got home he said she did not eat her dinner. She looked so sad her nose was dry and hot. We did give her some Keopectate after a potty round. She slept fine last night but man I could hear her stomach just making all sorts of noises. Loud ones.

This morning she is still down. She is so pathetic. Her nose was again quite warm and dry but better before we left for work. She nibbled at her breakfast and just lay around. Usually in the AM she is quite social. She is drinking and she only pee'd this AM. I am sure her stomach is empty.

Normally I work from home on Thursdays however today I have a meeting so I had to come in. I am just not sure if I should take Teddi in or if I did what they could do for her. I am being such a "mom" I just want to make her better. Any thoughts?

apathetic and lethargic -- either are DEFINITELY reason to go to the vet.  Add to that intestinal problems -- could be anything from a bacterial gut infection to something else.  Her stomach is upset enough that she's not wanting to eat and it sounds like it's intestinal as well.  I'd be going to the vet, I think.

That would be the deciding factor for me too. I know some dogs aren't always ravenous like mine are, but I still think this warrants a trip to the vet. I hope it's nothing serious.

    Me too!

We've had Sassy for 7 yrs and Buffy is almost 13 and I can honestly say that never, even when they weren't feeling well, have they not scarfed down their food (their labs, so maybe that's why). Perhaps Max isn't like that but since it's been a couple days of these symptoms, I think you're doing the right thing. Let us know what you find out.

I probably would have called too. But Willow's been thru so many times like the one you are describing I usually give some Imodium, a Pepsid, and fast her first.  UNLESS, I see blood, then I take her right in.

Whatever it is, I hope Teddi is feeling better. Dog

Man I hate sitting at work knowing my doggie is not feeling well. By the time I got home yesterday I could see Teddi was "feeling" better. I took her out for a potty walk before going to the vet thought I would get a sample if she complied. OH BOY did she still have the runs. Really really stinky too. Now I know poop is stinky but this is worse than normal. Even the vet commented on how stinky it was. The good news is she has nothing he could find wrong with her or her stool except it is not supposed to be in the liquid form. His suggestion was to not feed her until today, let her stomach/disgestive system settle back down, go ahead and give her some more keopectate last night and today. See if it straightens itself out. He said if it does not, or "something" shows up or it appears bloody bring her right back in. She was HUNGRY last night it was hard to not feed her. She has not defecated since yesteday afternoon, but she has only been on a liquid diet since really Wed AM so not unusual.

My vet said do not feed her anything different (boiled meat and rice) today she had a SMALL amount of her usual food for breakfast we will see how she does on that. If she appears to be settling back to normal, she will have a larger small portion for dinner and work our way back to normal portions. I am glad it is not anything. I just hate when they don't feel good and Teddi is particularly good at "pathetic".

I'm glad the vet didn't find anything and hopefully the fasting will get things back on track. I know what you mean about being at work and worrying. I always imagine the worst and make myself crazy. Hopefully he'll still have a good appetite tonight and the runny stools will be a thing of the past.
