    Insect Bites

We took Buckel to the park tonight, and he's come home with what I think is an insect bite.  Don't know what kind.  He's got a raised spot of skin on his left rear thigh, and he's been scratching and nibbling on it since we got home.  Is there anything I can do to relieve the itching, or should I just not worry about it?

You can give him Benadryl (regular pill, not the ones with other stuff in). The dosage I have is 1 to 2 mg per lb, 3 or 4 times a day. The regular pink pill has 25 mg of the active ingredient.

If he lets you, you can apply an ice pack (wrapped in a kitchen towel) to the bite site (a regular bag of frozen peas or green beans will do) for no more than 10 minutes at a time. Try to have him not scratch to avoid the risk of infection.

I hope Buckel's stops itching soon; they are miserable when they have an ouchie.
