Rory had bloody diarrhea a few times this morning. Some was just gel & blood. She hasn't gone anymore since around 9 something this morning. I called the vet, explained I had kids visiting and try as I might, Rory chewed up several plastic toys. For as many as I pulled out of her mouth, I'm sure she swallowed something. They said to just keep an eye on her, feed her chicken & rice for a couple days and if it's still a problem, bring in her. Okay, she's seemed fine all day. I made her chicken & rice tonite but i realized I'm not sure how much to feed her. So my questions are: 1. Is waiting and see what happens okay? 2. How much chicken & rice should i feed her? She's about 18 lbs. 3. Should it only be white rice or is brown rice okay? I know to make it soft. 4. She's usually fed twice a day, should I make smaller more frequent meals with the chicken & rice? 5. Assuming nothing cut her insides, what about eating some toy object would give her bloody diarrhea? Is it just irritating her until it comes out? Thanks!
1. Just monitor -- I'd probably ask them to do a fecal (which they should do without an office visit here I'd hope) and carefully watch this.
2. YOu have to guess at amounts -- judging by what I feed mine (11 pounds to 35 pounds) I'd give probably about 1/3 cup twice a day.
3. No brown rice - it's darned near impossible to get it broken down enough for her to digest and this is supposed to be EASY not hard. Cook the white rice full blown way over-cooked.
4. Twice a day should be fine.
5. It could have caused some collitis, it could have cut her, it could be stress -- could be a lot of things about it.
Hope that helps.
