Our Weimaraner, Lizzy has been leaking urine on and off for a number of years. Now it seems to be back with a vengence! It is always while she is sleeping or laying down.
The VERY first thing since it's gotten worse is to have the vet check for a UTI. That would be the 'easiest' and least severe thing but often when they relax, if they are drinking a lot of water, it's most difficult to 'hold' when asleep.
You might also want to consider an abdominal x-ray -- just because when something like that which is long-term *worsens* it can mean that there is something nasty going on and you'd want to rule out cancer.

We have used estrogen and proin in the past but those drugs can
cause other problems. I am thinking about trying some herb combinations that can be purchased on line at some of the
pet companies. Has anyone tried any of these?
To be completely honest I don't use much of anything that is "pet" oriented that is herbal, etc. I use TONS of it that is human quality.
Why? Because the pet stuff is SO often inferior quality and rancid. And, to be perfectly honest, it's all claiming to be formulated for the 'normal' dog.
Sooooooooooooooooooo what's that? a Beagle? A chihuahua? A rottie? a maltese? an akita??? Get me? There is no such thing as the 'normal' dog -- they all have different metabolisms and you have to adjust whatever you are giving for THAT dog.
However -- most of the things that work on incontinence tend also to be pretty strong. We had a boxer/pit mix (she was 'dumped' and we took her at 10 1/2 with major *huge* heartworm). After we got her treated for the heartworm it left the heart/lungs terribly compromised. She was on Lasix *and* she was spayed at 10 1/2 (not a well done spay either). So ... she leaked. BIG TIME.
The best success I had with it (and we tried proin and stuff and found it not to be very helpful) was with TCVM (traditional Chinese veterinary medicine). The Chinese herbs are stronger and more effective but also can help address what is really *causing* the problem. Ms. Socks was with us for 6 1/2 more years ... and she THRIVED despite having these sucky lungs/heart.
She was on a couple of different herbal blends, but the one that helped the most was schisandra. This is a good quality place to order from:

and this is a description (but I've never ordered from here)

It's one of those herbs in Chinese medicine that is used for a ton of things. If you put a drop on your tongue you can almost feel it 'suck up' moisture.
