Collar staining (jennie_c_d)

    Collar staining (jennie_c_d)

Emma wears a Herm Sprenger Toggle Choke, for a few hours, every week. I don't need help with my collar choice. The point is, it's a stainless steel collar, and it isn't on her very much. It's STAINING her coat! She's got a big, orange line around her neck. I'm about to bathe her in White On White, and see how that goes. My trainer said to throw the collar in the dishwasher, and that might help (her dogs are black, though, so she hasn't had this problem).

Is there a reason why an unrusted collar is staining her neck? I think it's weird! I may end up having to stick to her rolled leather collars. She's not a conformation dog, but I don't want to look at ugly lines around her neck.

It is awfully strange. If it was some cheapy imitation collar, I could understand. Crappy metal does weird stuff. But a Herm Sprenger? That's gotta be a pretty good quality steel... Confused I've got no clue, sorry.

That's what I thought... if I'd bought it at the dollar store, that would be a different story. It wasn't ridiculously expensive or anything, but Herm Sprenger is a NAME! LOL You'd think their collars wouldn't discolor a white dog.

LOL I thought to myself 'Brillo! Duh. Brillo takes out rust!'. And then I realized that that probably wouldn't work out so well. Maybe it's time for bed.

LOL. Emma would not be so thrilled if I used a Brillo pad on herWink Actually, my White on White worked GREAT for the staining on her coat. The collar... I'm undecided about. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. It'll go through the dishwasher, next time I run it (probably tomorrow). If it does the same thing after that, I guess I'll have to get a new collar, or stick with her leather martingale.

I'm no help Jennie.  I don't know why they stain.  But, I have seen posts on my chow board that some of the cream chows get staining with collars like this too.

I always thought (because I see these stains all the time!) that dogs who had stained necks wore their collars all the time. That's what's really bugging me. She barely wears the thing. I forget, and put it on her, and it stains her. ARG.

Just curious, what good will come of washing it?  That just doesn't make any sense to me.

I have no idea. I guess, maybe.... it has some skin oils and dirt on it? I don't know! LOL

I don't know any white dogs! I mean, besides the trillion I groom. That's different, though.
