Blue Heeler brushing (miranadobe)

My boyfriend's Australian Cattle Dog is leaving the most hair in the house - he could seriously need his coat brushed on a regular basis,but we need to get rid of the current overload of dead fur. Having only owned shorthaired dogs, do any of you groomers have suggestions for a coat-appropriate brush? (I'm hoping to get his coat brushed twice a week and see if that culls out enough dead hair that we can back it down for just maintenance.) Thanks for the suggestions!!! He hates being brushed, according to BF, so the more enjoyable for him, the better (treats, etc)

I by no means am an expert, but just wondering if you had tried a furminator?

not yet, although my sister swears by hers. I was hoping for a cheaper option, but if a $50+ investment is what it takes, then I'll do it. (Another thing to add to the "Grand-Fur-Kids Wishlist" for my mom.)

I used to use mine for my long haired kitty before he passed, it was amazing! The kong brush is really good too, not as effective though.

BUT if he doesn't enjoy brushing as it is, he might not like the furminator. Pirate HATES it. What helped with regular brushing was teaching him 'all done!' I have no clue why -- but I guess he likes knowing it's over.

Cherokee's coat looks really similar to an ACD's coat (but I'm not sure it behaves the same way..she blows her coat a few times a year like huskies..dunno if ACDs do that), and the best brush I have for her is just a normal slicker. Gets out a ton of dead hair when she's really shedding, but when she's just shedding a little bit here and there, it doesn't do much. So at that point I have two human hair brushes (one boar-bristle-type, and one wide-spaced plastic-bristled) I use on her. I brush her in circles with those, and she LOVES it, and it gets out more hair than the slicker if she's not blowing coat.

I have to say -- I thought my slicker brush was doing a good job on Luke's coat. UNTIL I got the Furminator. Holy cow. The first two times I used it that thing pulled out so much dead undercoat. I was amazed. Upkeep has been very simple since then and I have to say I think he's shedding less.

Isn't the furminator basically a clipper blade w/ a handle? I have a knock off that looks like that and it works well.
