stitches used for neutering

I answered this in the other place you put this -- typically dissolving stitches are used internally.  If you can *see* stitches (thread knotted at intervals with ends sticking out) those need to be removed -- pronto, actually or they will 'grow in'. 

However, typically when they use dissolving stitches inside they will use skin glue OUTside so you don't have anything TO remove later. 

But if you see a row of sewn & knotted stitches -- they need to come out and you need to call the vet tomorrow if you don't know how to remove them yourself (which probably if you aren't experienced to know what kind of stitch you'll want the vet to do the removing)

When my Chow dog fixed we where told the stiches would be gone withen two weeks...4weeks later I had to hold down a 110p dog and take them out myself.. I felt like  apervert but it had to be done.

Louise, can you call the vet's office and ask what they used? When I had Riley neutered a few weeks ago, they said they used dissolving, but that doesn't always mean everything's okay. He had to go back last week because one of them didn't dissolve and by poking through, caused a tiny infection at his incision site. After they took it out and gave him a shot of antibiotics he was fine, and it looks great now.

I am going to assume they are the dissolving type.  I just had Misty spayed a couple of weeks ago and I actually have a question for everyone here which I'll start a thread on, but when he didn't mention when he wanted to see her again, I actually asked.  He said they were the dissolving type, I think they are slow dissolving, though, probably to make sure that the incision has time to heal, since they are dogs.
