Quite honestly, I hold off spaying until at least a year now because spay incontinence is becoming much more frequent and I think bitches reach their full body potential when given time to mature naturally.
Are you saying that
your bitches are increasing with spay incontinence, or that you are hearing about more cases of it in general? At what age is this incontinence occuring?
There are
many benefits to pediatric spay, and definately to getting it done around 6 mos (which is the "old 6 month rule" utilized by most uninformed, earlier-schooled vets), such as lower incidence of mammary cancer, ZERO probability of any uterine cancers, and others.
Not to mention the avoidance of unwanted litters because of "oops" pregnancies that occur due to those owners who say "well, I thought she wouldn't come into heat until at least 8mos, that's when her ancestors had" or "I only had them out together for a short while, and I thought she was too young" (I've read of a LOT here in the short time I've been a member thus far)
I think the benefits, both health-wise for the bitch, as well as for the community regarding our immense over-population problem, and many more, far outway a few incidences of "spay incontinence".

it is, though, an individual decision, and not knocking you as a dog-owner, who undoubtedly has the best interest of YOUR dogs at heart... but being in rescue, and seeing what "oops" litters affect upon the dog-world, I'm a strong advocate for pediatric s/n, especially for the average-Joe/Mary dog owner.
Please do respond... I'm very curious, truly, if it's your personal bitches whom have had increased occurances of "spay incontinence" or if it's a general that you've heard about... (I wish to be fully informed, being such an advocate for ped. s/n, I would like to have full-spectrum knowledge of anything relating to this subject, so understand that my questions come from wanting to broaden that knowledge). Thank you! ~ Julia
