Neutering soon...

    Neutering soon...

I am getting my terrier mix neutered on the 23rd of this month.  He is a year and a half and has one undescended testicle.  He has always had a problem with marking inside the house on pretty much anything.  I never got my female great dane spayed because she was nursing a broken jaw around the time i had her surgery scheduled and my pug is going to be showed so he also is not neutered.  I was wondering if this will help him stop the marking problem and how long after surgery this will happen.  Its not the only reason i am getting him neutered because i know it is better for his health and to cut back the pet population if he ever escapes the yard.  But i was just wondering about all this helping my little boys peeing problem.

The testosterone will not completely leave until 6-8 weeks after the surgery.  Once neutered, the marking may slow down, but it most likely will not stop completely.  I've known dogs that were neutered before sexual maturity that learned to mark.

When I had two of my dogs neutered at an older age, once the testosterone was gone, they continued to mark, but not near as much.

Is he marking indoors?  If so, some behavior modification on top of the neutering should help that.  Check into making or getting a "belly band"-they really help!

Thanks for your help.  I knew the neutering would not completely stop the marking, but was hoping it would help with me training him not to mark in the house.  He also fights with my pug for the "alpha" spot in the house since i do have a female puppy.  I hope this helps and i will look into a "belly band".  Thanks so much.
